Another Idea: How to Start a Modeling School Agency Business

ONE OF MY BIGGEST DREAM IS TO BECOME A MODEL . NOTHING BIG JUST A PRINT MODEL .

  • rick

John Casablancas is a disorganized rip off. the home office gives no support to the franchisors. everyone just wants to make money and the corporate office does not care how much you lie to make it happen.

  • Yvette Rosa

I will like to give anyone who is interested in enrolling into John Casa Blanca to be very carefull, They are infact a rip off. This is just my 2nd week and classes has been cancelled with no notification, They are rude once you sign up. They don’t care at all. This is unbelievable. I feel very bad because the youth they want to become someone and have great chances, But these people just want to collect money and that is all. So please be carefull, very carefull.

As an artist whose been through other inexpensive, local, and more enriching programs (such as NJPAC in Newark, NJ), I have to say that “John Casablancas: Modeling and Career Center” is a complete con. They butter you up at the cattle-call, they “audition” you by application and interview (on a line, by row of seats, at a hotel…hmmm…THAT doesn’t sound odd), and when “YOU MADE IT!” they sit with you for ten minutes the next day to discuss finances (and since the kid is right there, how is a parent to refuse such a “wonderful opportunity”?). On your orientation day, which is, by the way, considered a “session” (2 classes, out of your 12, maybe 20 if your “one of the best students”-which means you go there like 6 or 10 times), they introduce themselves, show a cheezy video, and make you walk a runway (okay, there’s 9 hours of my Saturday gone, 6 in the cramped smoky-smelling room and 1 1/2 hours to get there and back). The next class (OH GOODiE! maybe I’ll learn SOMETHING now), they hand you a bag with a so-called make-up kit (hmmm…a mirror, a bunch of meaningless brushes and sponges we never use), a “guide” to modeling and commercial acting (whoa, a bunch of terms I can look up in the dictionary and a bunch of made-up commercials), a childish “how-to” book (which, by the way, can be found at any ordinary bookstore), and claim that they have one of the best businesses for “self-improvement” with their “well-known artists” teaching the students (okay, I saw like…one teacher who I’ve heard of).

My paperwork was utterly a mess, as “the amount to charge me for this class was that” and then “this class didn’t offer this” and NO BODY FREAKIN KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOIN WITH MY MOM’S HARD-EARNED MONEY!! The director was totally rude and stuck-up every time I wanted to discuss an issue with her, and all of the employees kept on leading me in circles when I wanted a question answered. John Casablancas: Modeling and Career Center is the right place only for self-destruction in your career. I am completely appalled to the treatment they dared to challenge me with, but they aren’t getting away that easily. I am so motivated to bring this dump of a business down.

I’ll have you know, maybe the only thing that I benefited from this program is the fact that I am NEVER going to fall for another cheap move like that. And to all of my fellow artists out there, I’d like to apologize to all of these kind of horrendous businesses trying to make a fool of you. I have personally made an oath to you guys that I would never deceive, harm, waste your time and money for the support of any kind of foul business play like John Casablancas: Modeling and Career Center.

I just want to add, I have just graduated from the local jc mtm and my classes were nothing like others here have described, they have been very professional and helpful and unlike some, I have no “dreams” about making it big, but just doing the classes has been fun and I feel worthwhile. Also, they are not just out for money like some say, as my child attended under a scholarship, paying nothing except a $50 fee to the photographer to own the copywrite of our photos. I think generalizing is a really bad thing, you should specify exactly which school you attended so people know which to avoid, the Seattle based franchise has been nothing but a pleasant experience.

  • Janice

Where did you get your scholarship from? I signed my daughter up but realized I cant afford it at this time and was looking for scholarships or some way to assist me in paying the tuition/

  • Allie

I attend that JC Center in Charlotte, I think that they do a pretty good job of teaching you. But, I have my doubts with them. They dont return phone calls and I am wondering if it is a large rip off.

  • Melissa

Just plain stupid. I’m 24 years old and have been out of the modeling and acting business for some time. In my earlier i was involved in civic theater and did some promotions for companies like heinekin and alavert. I was contacted by a JC representative in longwood claiming that they were looking for females in my age group and were making final selections on talent by tomorrow. Infatuated with the idea i agreed to attend an interview. Minutes later i realized i had a previous engagement and called the agent back to let her know that i guess i’ll just have to miss cut since she had so adamantly claimed that tomorrow was the last day. As soon as i tried to back out she offered to reschedule for later that week.

It was then that a light turned on in my head. Don’t let John Casablanca prey on your dreams. They try to create a sense of urgency and claim that they go through a rigorous selection process. If they were a true talent agency there would be no time limit because your talent shouldn’t expire.

As soon as i tried to back out she urged that they are the biggest modeling agency. I said i simply do not have the time or money to attend your classes. She continued to push and eventually started lashing out at me saying things like “well we don’t know if there would be any money out there for you anyways” because they might not have “selected” me. If they are a true talent agency and do actual scouting, name one person who’s corresponded with them that they’ve rejected… Thats why they are the bigest modeling company, because they tell EVERYONE they can be a model. You are selected based on whether or not you can pay.

I recommend those in the Orlando area to check out Lisa Maile. I am in no way associated with them but have had some friends go through them and visited their office. In no way did they pressure me. They are a true talent agency that work with major organizations such as SAG. They offer genuine acting/preparation lessons and do not sell false hopes. If you are talented and dedicated enough you will get the jobs. Audition for local civic theatres to gain some experience, don’t waste your time with John Casablancas.

I’ve done paid promotions taken acting classes in college. My best friend was in a Coca Cola commercial and found the open call just from looking at http://www.craigslist.com. These are valuable experiences. You don’t have to go broke to pursue your dreams.

  • stephanie

I just signed up 4 this… im attending the jc in charlotte, so far they called me… didnt pressure me 4 money, been real honest about the jobs, and you wouldnt have to pay if u werent needing classes…but they represent you to other modeling agencies…they need to know that you know what ur doing…if they didnt give you classes and just sent you to other agencies, the agencies would remember that one person who didnt know how to walk the runway… and not be willing to look @ another jc student again, therefore you need classes, and classses arent free, but i will keep u posted to see if this really is a scam or if this is the real deal!

whatever you people may be saying about John casablancas, well i want to let you know that it is not true.
John Casablancas is NOT a SCAM OR A CON!
I am now in my 6th week of training.
I have learned more there then probably a whole year in school.
They are conservative, respectful, and professional.
If you’d like to say something negative, then just SHOVE IT UP your AXX!!!!!!

I am a parent who sign my daughter up because she wants to act. We first found John Roberts and I felt they were a complete rip off. Wanted the whole amount up front ($3,000). My daughter found John Cassablanca online. When me and my husband went in for the audition we felt comfortable about the whole experience. My daughter just graduated last week. They tell you to call the hotline every Thursday for jobs. Everytime my daughter call there were not many jobs available. Since she was just starting I really didn’t want her to go out on auditions since she was just starting out. I have seen my daughter grow from her experince with John Cassablanca. I like that they didn’t demand the money up front and accepted monthly payments. Even if my daughter doesn’t get a job or any auditions out of this experience I now that John Cassablanca has help her out so much. I was wondering the two young ladies Allie and Stephanie who attended the John Cassablanca in Charlotte how has it worked out for them so far. They say in the winter time jobs are slow and pick up in the spring and summer. I am just wondering if you ladies got to go out on any auditions since graduating? My husband and I have spoken to our daughter about how hard this industry is for all who enter. She knows not to expect much right now. John Cassablanca staff in Charlotte NC was very polite, patient and helpful when ever I had questions or concerns.

    thankx bunch,

I just spoke with someone from the Charlotte office. I am going on an open casting call on Monday night. What should I expect?

John Casablancas is a franchise. People buy the franchise name and the equipment to get into the business. You’re going to find that some are in it only for the money and some are in it to actually discover models and actors. John Casablancas isn’t meant to be a scam. Unfortunately, some people are greedy and are using the JC name to get the money they need and make JC look bad.

I have been attending JC for 4 months and I just recently did my first fashion show. Unfortunately, I am not old enough to do the other jobs that are available. John Casablancas is not a scam and everyone else just needs to get over their big fit. You live and you learn. You guys unfortunately learned that the center you went to had a bad owner who just wants people’s money. Stop giving JC a bad name. If you feel you need to warn someone, then simply post the location of the center you went to so others will know to try another location.

    I LOVE JC!!

  • http://??? Chuck

I am a 12 year pld and my name isnt Chuck…I am scamming you…Just like JC’s Will. They Interviewied me once with a Reese’s peanut Butter Cup read-off. It seemed really nice and all. I got called back for a second audition. They sat down with me and my mom and discussed. They handed my mother a piece of paper w/ info on it. I thought wow…Thats alotm of acting lessons. However the price…..WAS 1300 Dollars. So they pressured. They wanted us to decide in ten minutes…Then come back and give them the money and sign a contract…Just like that. So, my mom and I went for dinner and talked. My dad and I researched it and found it was a scam. The JC’s People would say that “Budding talent” (Which is exactly what they said to me) would need some training before they “Sell me” Which is what they did. So, my mom called the lady back and said that we werent interested….The lady snarled at her a said “I ONLY HAND OUT CONTRACTS ONCE!” So my mom politely declined….The next day the guy from there called back and said he would reduce the price of the lessons…Like he was doing us a big favor….We declined.
THIS PLACE IS A SCAM…..DONT JOIN JCS!

  • Kaitlyn

I think that john Casablancas is a very good company to become a model or actor/actress. It’s very important if you love it like ME. If you guys have nothing good to say about them than dont say anything at all it RUDE!!!!!!! and disrespectful.

  • Kaitlyn

I love JC its soooooo kewl i remember my first photo shoot i was 10! now I’m 11. I’ve been working with them for about 6 months and I love it.

  • Benji

i was assigned an interviewed with JC… but i heard they use u 4 money… my sister went there earlier…but i didnt know… she said they were GREAT… until dat is they told her to give them $300 to them…(AT THE INTERVIEW!!!)
she eventually did.. but then they said that was it..then… she called in later when no one called 4 her after a month.. they said they didnt call because she didnt pay them $1,700 for what they asked… bu then THEY NEVER SAID THAT… i dont know if its just Milwaukee.. or if its with the whole JC company…

but i reallly want to become a Model and an Actor… so if anyone knows where in Milaukee i can go with really low payment or none at all???
i jus dont want to get my hope up.. then get turned down because i dont have the money

What They Say vs. What They Mean

Unscrupulous model and talent scouts have their acts down pat. Listen carefully to read between their lines.

“We’re scouting for people with your ‘look’ to model and act.”
I need to sign up as many people as possible. My commission depends on it.

    “Your deposit is totally refundable.”
Your deposit is refundable only if you meet very strict refund conditions.

“You must be specially selected for our program. Our talent experts will carefully evaluate your chances at success in the field and will only accept a few people into our program.”
    We take almost everyone.

“There’s a guaranteed refund if you’re not accepted into the program.”
Everyone’s accepted into the program. Forget the refund.

“You can’t afford our fees? No problem. You can work them off with the high-paying jobs we’ll get you.”
We demand payment, whether or not you get work.

“Commissions from our clients are our major source of income.”
Our income comes from the fees we charge you.

jc in atlanta , ga. We drove all the way down there and interviewed with a Tyana R. and she pressured us. we modeled before in th city.( NY) and did pretty good, long story short we wouldn’t sign a contract , but left a post dated check of 380.00 dollars. sunday night i called to cancel the next appointment and return my mothers check they were mad i mean ms. Tyana R. was pisted and started talking down to me about my daughter , about her weight , her skin , her shyness, i then steped up my tone and shoot her down reminding her that we worked in the city before comming her and i dont think we could work together. just send us the uncashed check she agreed and that was 3 weeks ago , called today and she saying that they may have riped the check up. i think they think they will try to cash the check later they are wrong i am going to take these comments and broadcast them to thier local tv stations and have them shut down .

Any modeling or talent “agency” that requires you to pay up-front is not a true agency. If they want money up-front, they are just trying to take your money.

    NEVER PAY TO AUDITION

NEVER PAY TO JOIN AN AGENCY

IF AN “AGENCY” ASKS FOR MONEY, UP-FRONT OR IN PAYMENT PLANS, RUN!!!

Is it a scam if you buy a 32 ounce soda for $1.29 at McDonalds when it only cost 5 cents for the cup, lid and actual soda???
Is it a scam if you buy a ipod for $200.00 when it only cost $5.00 to make???
Is it a scam to enroll your child into a modeling school that cost $1500.00 to learn and receive BASIC knowledge of the Modeling and Acting industry???
Try this… Move to Los Angeles or New York (where the majority of the work is) with 5000.00 and try to just learn the business, let alone do any modeling or acting jobs.
    #1 You’ll waste 5000.00
#2 You’ll get emotionally wiped out by the business.
So that all said… Experiencing a 10 week program at a reputable school for as little as 1500.00 is not really a scam or bad idea… If you want to test the waters of the entertainment world.
P.S. Seattle and Portland JC are good companies to be involved with.

  • SS

As a former student of John Casablancas, the only knowlege I received from John Casablancas after paying nearly $3000 was how to write a theatrical resume and how to slate. They use their professional name to rip kids off and I can’t believe I was one of these kids they ripped off. Week after week, the same common sense things. How many times did I spend hours just listening to kids open the door, slate, walk out and smile?? Man, I already know…say your name and age…how come I have to practice this EVERY week I come in?! I was looking to do some real emotional acting with other kids who have the skills. I was looking to learn new techniques. They taught me none of that. I am a better teacher at connecting with my emotions and teaching these techniques than the teachers at John Casablancas were. Out of the five teachers I worked with, only one of them wasn’t wasting my damn time. Not that she taught me such techniques, but at least we were doing warm-ups for half an hour like a different teacher kept doing. And by these warm-ups, I mean “touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth,” “say banana cabana.” The classes were a joke. They supposedly are picky in choosing their kids after an open call, but I saw so many kids who really shouldn’t have been there. I’m sorry to say this, but most of them kids were hoooooooorrrrrrrriiiibbbbllllee actors. And to anyone enrolled at JC, when they call you about getting your headshots done and arranging it for you, don’t do it with them. Just a warning. They charge you $500 for “professional hair and makeup” and headshots and try to convince you to do three looks instead of two and one should be formal yada yada yada. You want to know what my profession hair work was? Two curls with the curling iron which weren’t even curls (they fell). [By the way, they use the cheapest makeup on the market in their makeup kits - wetnwild - not too important but just thought you'd like to know]. My oldest sister is an artist and laughed when she saw the headshots on my computer and saw the “professional makeup” they did on me. The girl was not even a professional makeup artist, I know that for a fact. In fact, she had just come to the US for a few weeks at that point and she was related to the photographer, who fyi, was the other makeup artist. I swear I looked like a drag queen. They don’t print out headshots for you btw, they give you a CD and you have to go pay extra money to print them out at a printing shop. Needless to say, my headshots sucked.

About trying to make you feel good and saying “you’ve got it, you’ve got the talent,” I know all about it. They served me up a lot of that. I can’t believe they get a couple grand from each kid, and theres a lot of kids.

So bottom line, they have a professional name but horrible quality training.

Oh and btw, I haven’t gotten my refund either like other stories I’ve heard.

((I attended the JC in Bev Hills.))

  • SS

Oh and one more thing I forgot, it shouldn’t cost you more than $125 max to get your headshots done.

  • Ray

Sorry the previous person had a terrible experience with John Casablancas.
From my experience John Casablancas Modeling has been the very best thing to ever happen to me. The schooling instilled into me self-confidence and how to be a professional in the entertainment industry and life. I would recommend John Casablancas over any other training out there. Thanks!
    Ray

  • jessica cope

Well to start off I’m 15 and I love going to j.c. right now .I’m actually signing for new classes.I’ve already graduated and I have continuous classes for 3 yrs after i get my certificate and unlimited use of a photographer Photos should only cost you $65-75 dollars tops. I read some of the comments that people left and was sort of shocked actually about how many people didnt like j.c.The people that got riped off by their local j.c shoudnt stero type the rest of them.I’m personally with a tons of loving and caring instructors that work their hearts out everyday to help aspiring models and actors to get better or just practice their work for an audition. They take pride in their work with us because the one i go to wants their students to thrive and they never are insulting or rude to anyone because they want a good professional reputation as one of the best j.c ‘s in the group. They want to help you however possible to help you reach your dreams. When they say its in you they mean it . It is they just bring it out. I love it . People shouldn’t just label something bad or a rip off just because they had a bad experience. I hope to goodness that the people that got ripped off didnt get give up on their dreams i no i’m sure not. Not even they slam doors in my face and say i’m to short.J.C is awesome peace out ppl

  • jessica cope

Oh I forgot to add something . If people try to make fees up then you know it is a scam.If people say you get in if you have money that isnt true because when i audtioned some girls didnt and they were actually very pretty ,but i guess the didnt have the look they were looking for at the minute.

  • Jon Doe

People, if you are going to give a review about this place, then LEAVE THE FREAKING LOCATION! You do absolutely no good by just leaving comments without addressing the location, good or bad.

I myself just had an interview at the Seattle location, read a reeses peanut butter cup ad, and walked down the hall. One guy discussed it with the other lady who told me to lose a few pounds so I can do body shots and what not (the holidays derailed me) but anyhow, they called me today and told me they wanted to move forward. I learned that they want to get me with their photographer and whathave you, and this will cost me 850 dollars. Not sure what to make of it yet. I’ll call back and discuss this further. They also want me to come in and sign a contract.

  • T.H.

As an idividual in this profession. It is an expensive industry. GOOD headshots are NOT going to cost you $125 (LOL). They will be at least $300 and higher. My head shots were $350 and that was the cheapest-high quality I could find. You wont even get your foot in the door without a professional headshot. At least your headshots and classes are a tax write off.

Every legitimate agency in Chicago wants to see a strong theatre/film background. The casting diretor workshops I have attended also tell you that they look for a STRONG training section in your acting resume. I know a few students who attend J.C.’s in Oakbrook. They told me they offer a photography program but they can get their headshots/comps anywhere as long as they have professional headshots for auditions.

Any school you start of in you will be learning basics. Thats what we started off with in college courses. The Actors Studio starts with basics… every studio really. Classes take dedication and hard work and so does this business. Alot of it is repitition. Working on set, that is ALL you do… 8-12 hours working on two scenes to get them perfect. You should have lots of repitition in your acting courses. THAT’S WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT! You rehearse, you perform, you rehearse, you perform.

When I directed over the summer, the kids I chose had experience and training. As a matter of fact, you could tell who had training and who did not. IT SHOWS! I dont think J.c.’s is a scam but I do think you should find a school that meets your requirements and acting level.

  • Cierra

Does anyone know anything about the JC in Cary, NC??

  • FARRIS SIMMONS

My child recently signed on with JC in Atlanta and so far we are pleased. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. And in this case my child is getting a great headstart and lots of insight into a business that will eat you up and chew you back out in pieces. (I know from my cousins experience). If for any reason I have a legitimate complaint against JC I will be sure to let everyone know but so far I have no complaints

  • Michael

My daughter, 12, was asked by letter to attend a meeting with JC to see if she had what it takes. The JC office is out of San Diego. The meeting was at a hotel in San Diego. About 100 model/acting prospectees showed up. The room booked was too small so they had to open another to accomidate the families. There was a cheesy “runway” video shown, and then each applicant was lined up to walk down a simulated “runway” at the hotel banquet room. This after approximately a two hour wait. The company seemed to be pretty honest in talking about how much you can be rejected in the industry, and not to expect to make a bunch of money initially. But the rep guaranteed that you would make back the money you spend. At the conclusion of the “runway” walk, everyone was told that those that would not be invited back would receive a call, those that were invited back would NOT be called. This seemed a little strange to me. I would think it the other way around, unless they just did not call anyone. We did not get a call so we came back tonight at our appointed time. They were suppose to be doing an “interview” and a reading of some script. Our appointment was at 6:30 p.m. We showed up at 6 p.m. and were told by the “office manager” that there was a 3 hour delay in the interview process, and we wouldn’t be seen until 9:30 p.m unless we wanted to reschedule and drive to San Diego (about a 2 hour drive for us). They never notified us that they were 3 hours behind, the “office manager” seemed more interested in answering her phone and asking her boyfriend if he was lost on his way to the hotel. For a business that is suppose to be professional, my impressions of this particular office is that it is anything but. Oh, if you sign up, this office wants between $1700 to $2400 dollars. They will do financing, if you bring the initial $240 dollars to the “interview” process. If you do that, they will set you up on monthly payments, at 18% interest. Re-read that again, 18% interest. Tell me why a company needs to have a jacked up interest rate like that? Your 1700 to 2400 can quickly add up to a whole lot more than that! I am glad for the 3 hour delay. It has made me rethink doing business with this company! As for those who have said it is like a cattle call the first night, I think the cattle got the better of the deal!

  • Michael

One error I made in my posting. The hotel where we met was in Temecula, Ca, not San Diego. But it was for the San Diego JC office.

  • Tami

I just had my 3 girls audition for JCS in Oakbrook Terrace, I do not feel that we were lied to or that anything was misrepresented in any way. All 3 of my girls auditioned, HOWEVER, they were not all accepted. Only one of my girls is attending. And I can afford it. So, no, I do not believe it is a scam, it is a school, and like any other “job” you need training. They provide training for a fee. they do not guarantee job placement. NOBODY CAN DO THAT. They do however have auditions with well known directors/agents. so you also have opportunity. NO, school or lessons, coaching, whatever you want to call it is not MANDATORY in this business, however, it is a business and a job, you need a resume’ .
My thoughts are this, if you are looking for instant fame n fortune, you should play the lottery, the odds are better.
If you are sincere and willing to put in the time and “HONESTLY” evaluate yourself… Modeling / Acting is self employment, then taking classes and courses for self improvement is not a bad thing. JCS is not going to instantly make you a star, but they can help you learn the basics and information, a place to start.
It’s a tough business, and there are alot of “looks” and alot of people that “think” they are more than what they are. dissappointment and rejection are very hard to take, so is a financial loss.
my suggestion to anyone looking into this type of business is , READ EVERYTHING! ASK QUESTIONS, if you are not comepletely clear DO NOT SIGN. this is a “CONTRACT” . NOBODY OFFERS SERVICES FREE!
And my experience , I did not have anyone there holding a gun forcing me to sign anything.
“But they pressured ” .. that is a load of crap! If you are using this type of line to blame the salesperson, then perhaps modeling or acting is not for you, you need to be responsible for your own actions, if not and you are not satisfied, then consider it a lesson learned and paid for, and don’t repeat the process.

Is there anybody else who has been to the Oakbrook location? I was wondering what their experience was.

Im attending JC and Im into my 3rd week of class. So far I DONT think JC is a rip off in my state(Michigan). Im attending under a WORKING scholarship program which means I work in the office a few days a week and ALL the hours I work go towards PAYING my TUTION! They pay 8.00 an hr so workin a mere 10 hrs a week drops the monthly price I pay alot! They do let u pay in MONTHLY installments which helps alot. So after workin my hrs I will pay 99.00 per month! Anyway, I will say that the course is sometimes unorganized b/c they basically let me start when you want to and just tell u to come to any class. So they’re are ppl there on diff stages of the class. Last wk I went and it was my 2nd class and there were girls there who were on their sixth class and one on her FIRST class! They have a sylluabus BUT they dont go in order. Another NEGATIVE is that on sats class they have all age groups in ONE class ranging from 8yrs old to a lady in her 60′s! And me being a 25yr old WOMAN I dont want to be in a class with 10yr olds! Other than those MINOR details, I personally am enjoying the class b/c its helping me with my self confidence and like a former post stated, Im NOT tryin to make it BIG either. I just want some local print work and maybe commercials. Oh and your photo shoot IS INCLUDED in your tution BUT u have to pay extra if u want comp cards. However anywhere you go you’ll HAVE TO PAY a fee for the comp card so I dont consider it a rip off. And they DONT promise you work, they told me Id be ELIGIBLE for work after 4classes. For me participating in this class is a fun hobby that Ive ALWAYS wanted to do and i think its something FUN and CONSTRUCTIVE for children to do.I dont have ANY modeling exprience so I do NEED to learn how to walk the runway, modeling industry info, etc. When my daughter is old enough I might enroll her b/c all young girls need somethin postive to do and this class does teach them HOW to be young respectful lil women!

(I’m 27) I have taken modeling classes before at Barbizon Modeling school in Tampa(nearly 10 years ago). This past Tuesday I went to John Casablancas(Jacksonville) to see about modeling for their agency. So far everything that has been told to me is TRUE. The first thing that you need to do when deciding whether or not you want to attend one of these schools is what is your purpose for wanting ot do this? If you have no previous experience of course they are going to want you to spend money and go to their school!! That’s more money fof them, not to mention what company wants to bank money on someone that is not focused and has no commitment. Think about it, they hear the same tired stories all the time…”It’s been my dream since…”"I was told that I look like…”. I feel sorry for those of you who did not do your research of the modeling industry before paying money upfront. You’re bad!! These are in fact franchises and I’m sure there are some cons out there, that’s why you’ve got to weed them out. I strongly believe that this school just wants to “bring out your best”, but unfortunately people sign up for the wrong reasons, sure you wnt to be a model, but do you know or have what it takes? that’s why they are training you. Not everyone has the poise and confidence to stand around in their underwear. They are teaching you that and a lot more. It’s not a scam or a con unless they are not giving you the service in which they promised. They don’t promise you a job after school, but low and behold…neither does Harvard! Do you homework!!! I will let you know if anything “fishy” happens. My call back appt is tonight, and my expectations…they are going to try to get me to go to their school becuase I need more training. I’ll let you know what happens though.

For those of you who think that John Casablancas is a rip off…it probably was FOR YOU. It is what you do with what you are given that makes or breaks it. I started out at the Charlotte center in ’97 (when I was 23). I was quickly picked for modelling and runway shows and started paying my tuition off as I was still attending classes. By the time I was finished, I was one of the most booked models in the agency (and I am 5″4′) and started getting work in film, television and movies. Nothing spectacular at first…but work nonetheless. Since I had signed a Non-Exclusive contract I was able to move from JC to another agency who wanted me BECAUSE of my training.
No one in this industry (modelling or acting) ever did themselves any harm by getting training. Once I was working, I actually started teaching at the Charlotte center as well, and was able to instruct other actors and models in everything from business techniques, camera training, make-up and catwalk. I left JC in 2001 to go to Australia, and within a year began teaching the same sort of classes that I did in Charlotte. I base my business and professionalism on everything I learned (good and bad) while at John Casablancas. But, I made it work for me. Some people expected to be catered for and have things handed to them on a silver platter…I hate to break it to those people but this is the wrong industry for that. It is all about ambition and hard work. And remember…it is an investment…you get out what you put in…and that includes $$. I have spent over $26,000 in College (for Theater) and John Casablancas…for my training as an actor and model and I am still reaping the benefits (financial, professional and emotional) from those investments in myself and my career.

I attended the JC in Oakbrook. Had a great time and signed with an agent. I have a few friends living in L.A. who are “aspiring actors” who have never even met an agent up close. At JC in Oakbrook I met with Casting Directors from ABC Family, MGM Studios and other Hollywood Agents. Where else can you get this exposure. If you had a bad experience BLAME YOURSELF and don’t point fingers. Take responsiblity and don’t ruin this experience for us that made somthing out of it!!!!

On 3/28/08 We was called for an audition by Ms. Angel and after the audition we was told to come back on 3/29/08 and on 3/29/08 we spoke to Ms. Angel and she told us that my two girls and my son need more experience in modeling and commercial business. As explain to me that I need $1,926.00 for each child and I explain to her at this moment that I don’t have it and she insisted that I could $300.00 down and $60.00 a week I told her I don’t have it at the moment and she said if I wanted to save a spot for my daughter the only way to save a spot for one of the kids which is my oldest daughter is by paying $150.00 and she said by paying the $150.00 she can start classes on 4/5/08 but we would have to pay on 4/4/08 and the next day I had a car accident and I told my girlfriend to call Ms. Angel to let her know that sirena will not be able to make the class because my car is total and she said that I must not worry about it because I did not pay the $150.00 yet. So I called her back and told that my daughter is not going to make the class so I ask what I can do to get my money back and she said she will speak to her director and get back to me because she understand. from 4/4/08 to 4/24/08 they sent me a letter saying I owe them $463.00 so I called them to find out why I owe them $463.00 I was told it was for the classes that my daughter missed so I explained to angel that they sent me a letter and why they sent me the letter and I did not pay the other $150.00 yet I was told by her that my daughter was not going to be enrolled in class until the other $150.00 was paid and she said she is going to take care of if a day later the instructor called and I explained to her that I owe them $150.00 and she can not start classes until that is paid and she said she did not know so she said she is going to put a note on ms. angel desk so every time they called its about how much I owe them. So the last person I spoke to I told them I want to cancel my contract for the $150.00 so she told me I would still have to pay the $463.00 and I said can I ask a question? I ask like I how I don’t have the $150.00 to pay. Are you going to let my daughter start the classes with out me paying? and her reply was no after she said no she hung up then I called back to speak to ms. angel she told me ms. angel is not in so I left my number for her to call me and she never called me back so two days later I called and finally I get her so I ask ms. angel what is going on she asked about what? I said a bill I received for $463.00 she said she can drop the amount to $267.00 then I ask her how I’m going to pay it when the agreement was she told me with out the $150.00 my daughter can not start class he said since they sent me the bill she said I just have to pay it so I told her I want to cancel because that not why I sign the contract so she said I will have to write a letter and after I write the letter I would not have to pay any thing. So I told her I suppose to get my $150.00 back because the agreement was in order for my daughter to start the class I would have to pay $300 and $60.00 a week she said she would call me and she never did and on 4/24/08 I had to call 3x’s to speak to her and when I finally spoke to her I ask her why I’m still getting all these bills she said she spoke to the person who is responsible for the finance department and she will transfer me to her when I spoke to her she was rude a disrespectful and when I ask for her name she did not even tell me her name I explain to her she said she know and I still have to pay $463.00 I ask to speak the owner, corporation, and headquarters and she told me there’s no owner then I asked her to give me the number to the corporation and she said they are the corporation and the headquarters when I was told by an employee that they are a franchise and I said let me speak to someone who is over her and when this lady who name is Laura got on the phone she litery cursed me out and said she run things and she said you have to pay me my money or you will be talking to my collection agency and she did not give me any time to talk so she hung up the phone so if there any one that can help me please do so my mother passed away 8 months ago I got 4 kids and its very hard all I was trying to do is make something out of life so by these people trying to have there collection agency to rip me off and mess up my credit so please I’m asking some one to help me. john Casablanca’s in Miami are full of s**t

I was contacted by Tonya for an interview at JC in Atlanta, Georgia. I drove almost two hours, sat there for 4 hours, and ended up driving home in tears. I walked the “run way” and was immediately called into Tonya’s office. She told me she “loved my look” and that I was absolutely gorgeous. She said she had spoken with one of her fellow employees and that they were interested in doing runway and print shots with me. She made me feel so confident, and I was so incredibley excited. After speaking with her for an hour, discussing my goals and expectations, hearing that I would have a contract and be in music videos and magazines, she ends our interview with, “Oh, I almost forgot the price list! I guess you need to read that, don’t you?” So she hands with this piece of paper that says I have to pay $2300 for some classes? No thanks. I explained to her that I can’t afford to pay that right now. She basically said, “That’s too bad. We really liked you.” She actually tried to convince me to drop out of Nursing school and con my parents into paying for classes! When I was leaving, I started looking around and noticed about 100 plain-janes walking around with absolutely no experience. Then I realized what an idiot I was for believing all her bullshit. I hope that you don’t believe everything they tell you at JC in Atlanta. It truly was the most disappointing experience of my life.

  • Bonnie

The Julian Casablancas foundation is truly a scam and I think it is really important to post these comments online. I hope nobody pays a single penny to this company before they know what they’re getting themselves into.
I have known three girls who have ‘graduated’ from the jc foundation in San Diego. One of these girls believed so firmly that she was going to make it, and so she dropped out of high school and…. I’m pretty sure I saw her a couple days ago working at hot dog on a stick. The other two girls… the first girl honestly has no talent whatsoever and no talent agent in their right mind would sign her for anything. The other girl was absolutly beautiful and so photogenic but nothing, absolutly nothing has come from her little graduation from the casablancas foundation.
I contacted the jc foundation myself (before I knew any of this) and never showed up to their auditions, but I kept receiving flyers for an ‘open casting for john roberts’. I signed up to attend this open casting but just before left my house I checked up on roberts on the BBB. Roberts was a total scam from all accounts so I decided not to go. A few days later I recieved a phone call from one of the JC people asking me why I didn’t show up and I told her exactly that roberts was a scam. She became very defensive and asked “who told you that?” After I told her I looked him up on the Better Business Bureau she began to retract “oh, well JC has no affiliation with roberts we simply print out his flyers.” I then told her that I was going to focus on school and if i wanted to take modeling seriously I would contact elite models, she then hung up on me.
My point is, ladies, GIRLS!!! John Casablancas is a shady character, the whole reason why he isn’t the head of elite is because he had sex with a 15 year old model when he was like…55. They basically said “we either kick your ass out or you step down.” So Casablancas stepped down and created this foundation to make a little extra cash.

****If you think you want to be a model do this, go to http://www.elitemodel.com and they guid you step by step to the polaroids you should take of yourself. That’s right, polaroids, you know, cheap pictures. Take this cheap little pictures, send em in. You have nothing to lose. Elite is a great agency and they can hook you up. Some of the most amazing models have started off there (cindy crawford, alessandra ambrosio, naomi)
I am in no way affiliated with elite, but I don’t want you girls to waste your time, money, and self-worth. Because trust me, the moment you pay the 1500 dollar fee, graduate, and are an unemployed…. whatever the hell you want to call yourself…. you will feel like total crap because you were scammed and unfortunatly, nothing you can do will change that.

    Dear Readers,
I have been an acting coach for a few years now. Most recently at John Robert Powers and now at Casablancas. Prior to this, I was a working actor and singer in Hollywood for years. I have learned a lot and met key industry people ten time over. I offer a few tips in my experience to Parents and to the Performer:

If you want to be an actor or singer you will have to invest in some training. This doesn’t mean that it has to be an elite school or that you’ll need to run yourself bankrupt to do it. So long as you’re actively pursuing your dreams then some experience and confidence will be gained.

    1. Audition at School productions, church productions, local theater, actors summer camp. The idea is to STAY in the art, regardless if you’re paying or not.

    2. Do some research. If these prestigous schools tell you the name of the Agency or Agent holding the audition – write their name down and research their legitimatcy on-line. Go to Screen Actors Guild and look up agents in your area. Not all AGENTS are equal. Some know Spielberg, some aren’t connected enough to know Speilberg’s driver.

    3. Understand that becoming a STAR doesn’t magically happen overnight but if you’re persistent your odds are greater. Everyday you should be working an amount of time toward your goal.

    4. Stay focused and committed to your dreams. Dollars and Cents cannot determine your success only YOU can. Don’t let anyone discourage you from your dreams.

I am also having a bad experience with our local JC office. I did notice that they were franchises (independently owned), so that would explain the lack of consistency. My advice is to have them let you preview some of their classes BEFORE you sign the contract. If they’re a decent establishment, they won’t mind. My 8 year old learned nothing at her 7 classes (costing $1500), they constantly cancelled classes, doubled-up on others, not enough teachers, etc. and have recently lost one of my payments. They’re very disorganized and want me to create my daughter’s portfolio for them, and to pay them an additional fee to post her on their online search.

  • Bailey

Does anyone have any info. on the Tulsa location?

  • Kelly

In 2003 I attended their classes and missed one due to the fact I wa sin a car crash. I attended the rest and graduated but was refused a chance to audtion for their scouts because I had an incomplete. Mind you they still held me resposible for ALL of my tuition and offered no make up class. This experience left me depressed for a long while and I hope no one else has one like it.

  • Jamie

hey umm I was going to do the John Casablancas modeling/acting in Plantation…does anyone know about that area and if its good or not??? I’ve been hearign a lot of bad things!

  • Jamie

welll John Casablanca in Fort Lauderdale.

  • Sharon

    Any commentors about Scottsdale, Arizona?

  • Stacey

What all of you guys asking about other locations?! Isn’t it obvious that every single one is a rip off and scam! Have fun trying to be blind and hoping that the one near you “might” be legit. You are only headed for disaster and heartbreak. Anyone else who says different works for them.

  • Sharon

Thanks Stacey for clarifying the location question. I researched the franchise’s history of complaints with the BBB (their placque is hanging on the wall), and did not find any complaints such as these made here. I am very grateful for your imput. It is what I did not find with the BBB that made me very cautious in dealing with this company. I hope that other parents, and aspiring talent in this field learn from the comments made here. Scottsdale is a very upscale area in Arizona. You’re not “supposed” to have rip offs or con games in this city. It is that assumption that makes this location so alluring to people, and willing to make the financial “commitment/investment” in this company. Hopefully, others will seek out information at their local BBB to see how the company handles complaints. If there is no record of how a company handles complaints, then there should be some cause for concern.

  • Kisha

I have the follow up inerview today in the Towson, Md office. Has anyone heard anything?

  • Kisha

BE VERY CAUTIOUS. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME. TELL YOUR MOM PLEASE DON’T PAY WHAT THEY ARE ASKING. I am 22 and recently been through the “audition”. In my opinion they tell everyone yes especially children. because they know parents are gullible. I was asked to come back for a 2nd interview… thats when they determine whether or not u will be committed, to paying that is. they aren’t too concerned if u will commit to the program they want to know if you would be able to pay! the program costs close to $3000 and you HAVE to make a financial commitment on the spot. and sign a contract. don’t do it. u have three days to cancel the contract (midnight on the 3rd day) they have to receive a cancellation thru certified mail. BE cautious

  • Natalie

Since mailnly everyone here has had horrible experiences with JC, do you have another agency in mind that could help aspiring actresses like myself?

  • Sami

I love the JC in OakBrook. I had such a blast and made so many friends there. The staff was great and the director of the school was always there to answer any questions! I met with agents locally, casting directors and agents from LA through them that they held twice a month for clients. I landed my first big break just a month ago and It was because of the JC training that did it for me!

They are NOT an agency and thats what people do NOT understand. You are paying for your training classes and auditions. If you want to take a dance class.. dont you pay for that? its the same thing you are paying for your services!

I am so glad I signed up with JC. The experience I had I cant even put into words! I love JC and still keep in touch with my coaches and the director of the school still e-mails my parents to keep in touch and to see how my jobs are going.

My Advice is to do it if you want the training and the experience. Thats what you need in this Industry!

  • Vicky

I think we can sum up the Casablancas school as right for those who do NOT have BIG time dreams of becoming a star and wrong for those who are serious about being on the cover of Vogue or becoming the next Meryl Streep. It seems to me that for the best of the best, you either have the talent or you don’t. No amount of money can change that.

  • NoteTalent

Any top Hollywood Talent Agent will tell you will need the proper TRAINING if you want to be successful in this industry. The top Hollywood Agents we work with DO NOT see the public and talent they see is only being referred to them. However, some modeling agencies hold open calls, but it is up to you to present yourself in a way that they would want to work with you (have the right hair for your facial structure, make-up, walk, etc.).
Aside from the training most JC’s fly out each month TOP CASTING DIRECTORS, AGENTS AND MANAGERS FROM HOLLYWOOD AND NEW YORK. Now calculate how much it would cost for you to fly L.A. back and forth (for two people approx. $700 + hotel for 2 nights; cheap hotel $60/night; that’s $120 for two nights + meals; so all in all $1,000 for one time flying out to L.A. seeing an agent. Now multiply this by 5 months = $5,000 AND THAT’S NOT COUNTING THE TRAINING YOU ARE GETTING).
Most parents that we are confronted with are seeking to make a quick buck of their kid. That’s why you will see blogs online. All of JC’s talent enjoy what they do and they have FUN doing it. The auditions are amazing and you can also read testimonials at (www.johncasablancastestimonials.com). The service that John Casabalancas provides helps kids be more confident, gain more self-esteem, are better public speakers and are able to use this for the rest of their lives.
John Casablancas never guarantees a job, but the opportunities are definitely there. Most John Casablancas Centers OFFER MONTHLY AUDITIONS IN FRONT OF TOP HOLLYWOOD CASTING DIRECTORS, AGENTS AND MANAGERS) And AS WELL AS TRAINING. THAT’S IT.

  • Billy

Ya, I just went in to the Oklahoma City office and joind up with JC today. I just wanted to be a movie extra. And I was told I could pay 75 dollars every 2 weeks. for classes. When I was rushed into the contract I fell for it, when I got home I found out it was 18% intrest and 2445 dollars or so total. And 1st thing monday morning I will cancel. I found on the contract that it was 151 dollars a week , she lied to me about the payment, and I will cancel a.s.a.p. I have read about 75 or 100 of these pepoles storys and 80% or so are bad, I would take the school but I dont think it would make me any $$$$ they whanted me to singn without letting me think about it for even 1 min this branch seems bad,

  • Jane D

    Dear aspiring models and actors,

you must invest in yourself if you want to reach your full potential in this industry. Just like doctors have to pay for school so do models and actors who want to pursue their dream. i dont care how cute u are or how many school plays you have done…you have to have training to be put out in the market. What kind of legit agent would represent you if you havent been properly trained? JCB is both a school and an agnecy! JC’s main goal is to broading your potential to get u ready for the agency…market.

hey everyone that wants to go to john cassablancas pleas read this!!!

it sucks i dropped out of it cause it so frikin borring. it cost too much money.. and i learned more about acting in middle school than in it!!!
i also signed up for acting and they kept giving us runway lesson

sorry about the typing im just so angry at them they almost ruined my dream of becoming an actor but that dream returned to me after 6 months

btw this is really bad typing cause its writtn by a 13 year old ME!

ok to all haters of the center: I just graduated from the female moeling class and it was so much fun! i really enjoyed the classes, and they helped me raise my confidence and i feel a lot better about myself. it was totally worth it! ^_^ i dont know what the job hotline number is though X.x

  • Brianna Lamoreaux

its totally worth the money when you get through and DONT drop out. with the class i took, i have three years of unlimited photoshoots and training AND i can transfer to any john casabalncas in te country. tatally worth it. you whiners didnt see how benefitial the classes were. god.

  • Brianna Lamoreaux

and the runway class was for finals, morgan. if you stayed you would know that.

  • Kristy

I cant believe what I am reading on this. Nobody here has a clue of what the industry is about. I am so happy I had the chance to attend the JC in oak brook. The coaches are very trained and know what they are talking about. The school director was always there to answer any of your questions and the staff is wonderful. I was able to meet agents and casting directors every month from NY or LA with them. You can never meet these agents from New York Or LA on your own. so they open the door for you. they offer you training and if you want to be in the indusrty–guess what?? you need training! and your not going to get the training for free. Your paying for your classes, auditions, and marketing. Which is well worth it.

If you have a bad experience with a JC let them know. Dont talk bad about them because not all JC’s are like that! Like I said I loved the JC in Oak Brook. and because of them I have 3 agents and Im working alot! I would of never been able to do that on my own. and know what I know now!

don’t put down a good agency!! oh my god, you people that had bad experiences CLEARLY didn’t WANT to model or act, and didn’t deserve to be there!

  • Chris

Just because you seemingly had a good experience, doesn’t mean that everyone else did.
Other people CAN have a bad experience WHILE doing everything in their power to acheive their goals. Goals aren’t just met on desire alone. And having a bad experience doesn’t mean someone didn’t deserve to be there. People are people, and people have discriminatory behavior whether they believe it or not. Perhaps the person fell into one of those categories. You never know. But your assumptions are filled with teenager-like wisdom, which is essentially void.

  • Linda

    Dear Readers,
You do not need training to become a model! The people on this blog telling you to invest in yourself… work for the place. I sent my daughter to this ‘school’ in Pittsburgh. The only thing she did every week was pay an additional $65 for a photo shoot CD. She did not learn the equivalent of a $2000 tuition. I am in pharmacy school and I assure you that for $2000 you can get more training anywhere else than you do there. The only work my daughter got was for free in a fashion show that they asked me to be in also… and I do not have training. I have reason to believe that the finance company that financed the monthly payments is also owned by JC… since they say that they are there from 9:00 to 8:00pm and they never answer or return calls so that they can bill the late fees also. We are still in contact with all of the ‘graduates’ of JC and none of them have been able to get anything… and believe me… there were some stunningly gorgeous girls in that group! Oh… and I do know a model who made it big in Milan and NYC… and she did not have ANY training… she just auditioned for America’s Next Top Model. Please do not waste your money on JC.

  • Holly

i am 6’0, and all legs and im 14 years old, and this ohn casablanca agent person caled me and he wanted me to audition, i said yes… i hav done modeling classes, but pre-mateur, should i do this john casablanca thing

what do you think about the john Casablanca at Fort lauderdale ?

  • http://johncasablancasmodeling kris

total scam girls, dont waste your money or time, you dont need training just an agent

  • samantha

ive read everyones blog on here and all the negative comes down to the price well sorry to say modeling school is like college you have to pay money before you make it big and not everyone has what it takes im not saying you cant be famous without training but its very rare. Im sick of people saying this is a scam is training not a promise that you have what the top agents are looking for.but at least you get training experience and you may or maynot get your break. Trust me i know a real scam and its not this company. Before you say its a scam think of this story of my husband getting offered a job and them wire a bad check into our bank and stealing 10000 from our checking account and us being responisble for the damages. Now that is what you call a scam trust me if your getting training books, and auditions for a few thousand dollars than thats actually not that bad if you can afford it of course. But theres always away to make payment arrangments. So if you dont think the company is right for you than dont go but if you dont take a chance nothing will come your way.

  • samantha

also was wondering about anyones story of colorado agencys havent seen any blog for that yet.

  • Rich

John Casablans center got me 3 agents, 8 paid commercials and tons of connections. Of course the lazy not talented will make complaints. It’s a fact that the company will help u but you have to push as well. The people that I have seen in my program that are actually booking work are the ones that pay attention. The ones that are trash and don’t show up are the ones that write bag blogs.

I enrolled my 15 yr old at the Jacsonville,FL John Casablancas SCHOOL…I have been reading and looking at posts by some of you…if you cant spell or speak proper English you are really not elegable to judge the efficiancy or legitamacy of schools…JC is a school and ALL models have to learn the industry no matter if they study at home or pay someone such as JC to teach them…Iam pretty sure that you need training and or education to do any job…Universities and colleges cost the amount of what 2 homes or more and then some find themselves unable to get employment….JC is there to teach these people and after you graduate you may or may not be invited into mtm…(NOT THE JC SCHOOL) they are two different things and as with a job interview you may be turned down based on ur QUALIFICATIONS…being 15 my daughter is limited due to child labor laws however she has had opportunities that were promised when we signed the contract…my point is NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE…if you wana get somewhere its gonna cost time and money…dont blame JC because you are too LAZY to work for what you want!!!!!

I was called for an audition at the JC office in Charlotte, NC. I checked into doing some research on the place before going, so I was cautious, as always. I’ve been scammed before and have a general idea of what to look for. I’m an experienced actress and classically trained singer, so my confidence is most certainly not lacking. Whether this place turns out to be useful or not, it won’t change my opinion of myself or my aspirations. Despite reading all of the horror stories, they managed to convince me to sign after offering me a “holiday scholarship” in December where I only had to pay one hundred dollars to hold my place in classes, and told me that I would start today, January 7th, and that a payment wouldn’t be due until the end of January, thirty days after my sign-up date. I’m a really good judge of character and believed the person I interviewed with. I understood at the time that they, in fact, did NOT promise any jobs, and I understood that my abilities ALONE would be what would determine if I get any of the auditions that they have told me they will be sending me out to. She did NOT, however tell me that photographs would cost me anything. As a matter of fact I very clearly remember them saying multiple times that they cover photoshoots and make up, and she told me I could get the copyright to my photos, but never mentioned my having to shell out more money. But I did notice on the contract that I had to initial beside “we have not promised you any photos”, and I found that odd, but giving the benefit of the doubt I signed and paid the $100 dollars because I figured this would look good on my resume regardless.
Today I showed up thirty minutes before the first class, as asked to. Scanned my card. Was told that I owed $240 dollars. …I was like “What? No, when I signed the person I interviewed with clearly told me that I owed no more than the hundred dollars I put down for the classes due to the “Holiday Scholorship” and that no payment would be due until the end of January.” So the lady at the front desk called the person I interviewed with to the front desk, and they went back and fourth about it. They told me to have a seat, and when they called me back, the person I had my original interview with was very apologetic and told me that she didn’t realize that within the same month I paid the $100 dollars, I had to also pay $240 before I could start classes. I was NEVER, EVER told that. It honestly makes no sense. It was the VERY END of December…Why would I pay $100 extra dollars when classes were about to start in the beginning of January? So how does the $100 dollars + $240 in one month make sense? It wasn’t a month, it was ten days. She admitted that it was her fault, and that she was sorry but unless I had the $240 today I couldn’t start. On the generic contract that they apparently give everyone it says that you can start classes with $240. So, if I still have to pay $240.. What in the hell did I pay one hundred dollars for in December? I don’t understand at all. When she dropped all of this on me I smiled and said “So let me guess. Even though I’ve already paid $100 dollars, and have to pay $240 more, since I signed at the end of December, my monthly payment will ALSO be due at the end of January?” She said yes. So by the end of January, if I decide to actually pay this $240 to start classes LATE, I also have a payment due, meaning that within the time period of December 20th though the end of January I will have paid over four hundred dollars, and haven’t even had a single class.
Everyone else who started today had paid $240 in December, and didn’t have a payment until the end of Januray…. How in the hell is paying an extra $100 dollars for absolutely no reason a scholarship, and why am I the only person they’re doing this to?
I ended up walking out and basically telling her that if they wanted me, they were going to have to arrange something and work to keep me, because I am not happy, and the incident was in no way my fault.
I REALLY, REALLY want to believe in these people. She said she’d call the Vice President Monday and see if there was anything that could be done since it WAS her mistake, but at this point.. I’m not sure that I want to go on at all. My family is in a rut right now, and wasting this money would do damage. I suddenly have a really bad gut feeling about this, and I gave them the most honest, non-biased chance I possibly could have. To be fair, I do know that there was other people there that DID in fact get turned down. It seems to me that if this were a scam, they would want everyone’s money. Then again, while I was sitting there, I noticed a lot of…. I honestly do NOT mean to be an stuck-up jerk about this, but a lot of people that REALLY could NOT be model material in ANY aspect unless JC also provides plastic surgery. And I’m here for ACTING. …And I happen to know for a fact, God forgive me, that I look about ten times better than they people they accepted for MODELING. I know that sounds HORRIBLE, but there are so many things telling me to get out now. If it is a scam, then it’s a nationwide scam, and how they’ve gotten away with it this long, and have so many people in on it is beyond me. In addition to that, if it was a scam, they have my bank account number and social security number; wouldn’t they have already attempted to totally rip me off by now? So right now I’m 50/50. There are a lot of things that appear to be in their favor, but also a lot of things that are throwing up red flags.
I would be more okay with them telling me that I owe $140 to start classes. That would make more sense… But to have me pay $340 instead of $240 in all ….because I have a scholarship. Like, what? There has to be a mistake. If it was a con, you would think they would be better at being convincing, right? None of it makes sense.
At the initial audition the male giving his speech about the place mentioned how they have all this hate online, and bad reviews. He then went on to explain how, if you look closely, all of the “hate” against them was similar, and implied that a rival company was going around posting the bad reviews. However, when I’ve looked around, the only patterns I see are in the people talking good about them. They all sound the same. Yet at the same time, nearly ALL of the good and bad reviews are horribly mispelled, and most of them borderline ridiculous. I just wish someone would be real with me. Is this 2,000 dollar certificate I’ll get from them really going to put me above any of my competition, or am I just going to appear gullible to future prospects? I’m having my lawyer look into all of this within the upcoming week. If you have any experiences with the John Casablancas in Charlotte, NC, or are currently going there, PLEASE share with me your PERSONAL experiences only. I’m not interested in hearing from people in other states.

Please stay away from these people, they’re a rip off. They told me one price and at the end I end up overpaying 500 dollars, when I asked about it, they told me to call they’re crappy financial people, call them over 150 times no one answer or reply to my voice msgs. I went back to JC the person in charge told me she could’nt help me that I had to keep trying…WTF??? called corporate, and not response yet of where my money went.

Look how are you suppose to know what to do when the feedback is making your head spin back and forth from negative and positive?!Is JC really good or is it a piece of sh*T? OK so if one wanted to go and didn’t have that kind of money, are there scholarships?I don’t know about everyone but I’m tried of throwing my money out the window for things that are a rip off or that I don’t even know will work!I’m looking for success not a thieve in the night to take away the little money I have. How is JC of Raleigh?
