Using Personal Touch to Gain An Edge
Startup Journal: “When starting your own business, don’t try to get too big too fast. That’s the advice from entrepreneur Brendan Synnott, co-founder of Bear Naked Granola, a two-year-old cereal company based in Darien, Conn. ‘I think a big mistake a lot of people make is trying to take that success and spread it everywhere very quickly,’ he says. His counsel: Maximize every break you get before you move on to the next thing. This hands-on approach extends to the company’s production operations. For example, it had hired an executive from a big cereal company to help produce its all-natural cereals. He didn’t last long. The granola’s quality dropped when he outsourced its manufacturing to another company. Bear Naked quickly pulled the plug, and the company still makes all its own products.”
