I still have one more Gmail invite available and will send it to winner of this competition.
To enter, make a post on your weblog about the Business Opportunities Weblog with a link back to this site. The post can say anything you like - as long as it lets your readers know about this weblog and includes a link. After you’ve made the post, leave a comment in this entry with your post’s URL and on June 21, 2004 I will randomly select a winner from all of the entries received.
(This idea was “borrowed” from The BlogFather.)

Well, I did it. If I win the Gmail account, I will use it as a birthday present. How long does it take to get invitations? The URL can be found at here . Thank you so much

Hi, Dane, good idea. But, who wants a Gmail account anyway? Not me.
Dane Carlson on June 19th, 2004 at 10:41 am
Yvonne, why do you think that no one would want a Gmail account? What about it do you not like?
Dan Sherman on June 19th, 2004 at 6:20 pm
Hi Dane. Okay, here’s my post:
http://www.dansherman.com/2004/06/business-opportunitiesbiz-rocks.html
Hope I get it. I don’t want to pressure you, but there’s a tall bridge here in Portland that I’ve been eyeing. I’m thinking of jumping off of it if I don’t get an invite to Gmail soon. :-)
Kevin on June 19th, 2004 at 7:41 pm
I have 12 invites left. I’ll invite you people if you leave your emails. Who cares about this.
Todd Earwood on June 19th, 2004 at 8:34 pm
Dane- this is a very good idea. We all want more traffic to our blogs and this was a smart move. I know I enjoy your blog and Dan Sherman who posted above. More incentives… will hopefully mean more traffic.
For those who don’t know, GMail gives you free webmail with 500x the disk space than Hotmail. The other rumor is that Google is not going to sell their email addresses like Hotmail and Yahoo made the mistake of doing.
I was lucky enough to ask Dane for one of his accounts and he gave it to me. Thanks again, Dane!

Hi Dane,
As to the Gmail account and why I don’t want one…I hear there are a lot of good things about it, but I get enough ads ‘fed’ to me by other sources. I’m considering a Google ad post on my blog, but my research shows that Gmail is pretty much a sneaky vehicle for putting ads in places they shouldn’t be. According to Abbie Drew from DEMC.com, who’s been doing email marketing longer than almost anyone on the web: “Gmail reviews the content of the incoming email messages and then places contextual ads directly next to your email’s body. Thus the recipient sees both your email message and the ads together as one informational piece. For instance, if you’re promoting web hosting in your email message, the Gmail user will see AdSense ads (AdSense ads are Google’s pay per click ads for content sites) for other web hosts right next to your message. If this news is not disturbing enough, in addition to the contextual advertising, Gmail also places text links of related web pages next to your message. Based upon keywords in your messages, Google pulls up links to news stories - potentially distracting from your email and/or leading to a competitor’s information as well.”
Doesn’t bode well for email marketers, does it? In addition, I just like being ornery sometimes. Going against the grain. I need to see Gmail in action. I need to hear actual user comments. I need more information before I jump on the Gmail bandwagon.
