To bypass all the extra stuff that Adobe Acrobat Reader loads and radically speed up opening a PDF, hold down the shift key when you click a link to a PDF, or double click one your computer.
If the PDF doesn’t look right, you might have close it and then reopen it without holding down the shift key, but I haven’t had to yet.
How much does this trick speed up Acrobat? Try this link to a PDF of the most recent issue of The Journal Entry, the Real Life Accounting Newsletter.

I think it just bypasses the splash screen. It’s a fraction faster. :-)

I think it actually stops Acrobat from loading all of the installed plugins .

There is a great utility you can use instead to make Acrobat load much faster. Here’s the link: http://www.tnk-bootblock.co.uk/prods/misc/index.php. It’s really an amazing tool. I thought it was something wrong with my installation of Acrobat before I installed Speedup.. From one minute to a few seconds to load a pdf file is really a lot.
