Apple Launches iTunes Affiliate Program
Slashdot: “Apple has launched an affiliate program for their iTunes music store that earns participants 5% commission. Affiliates can link directly to songs, albums, and artists, as well as apply to the Apple Store affiliate program to sell hardware. It costs nothing to join and people that sign up prior to September 15 can win one of five free iPod minis. Apple has also assembled a handy FAQ.”

Here’s the lowdown on the Apple iTunes affiliate program:
1) Actually being run by Linkshares.com
2) You must sign up for the whole Linkshares affiliates program
3) Your site is vigourously reviewed by Apple
4) You must meet their criteria to be considered
5) Your site cannot have any 404’s
6) You sites content must fit within the “specifications”
7) Your site must meet certain visual criteria and be aesthetically pleasing for consideration (no ugly sites).
8) You cannot promote alchohol, tobacco, or drinking/drugs on you site
9) You cannot have religious content on your site
10) The majority of your visitors must be from the US
11) Your site must reside in the US
Where did I get all this information? My rejection letter. It seems even though you may review music, write about it, post links to the bands website, offer information about them — the aforementioned list might disqualify you from becoming an iTunes affiliate.

Oh! and the kicker is the FAQ’s page says:
Can websites outside the United States join?
Yes, but since the iTunes Affiliate Program is only for the U.S. iTunes Music Store, we seek affiliates who cater to customers residing in the United States.
((unnnnnnnnnnnkkkkk)) Wrongo! Not according to their letter.
