In response to Instapundit Glen Reynolds comments about how little money he makes from his weblog, Robert Sama ran the numbers and discovered that
According to Blogads, Instadude had three rates for ads, $3k for the top ad, $2k for the second ad, and $1k for each subsequent ad. At 7 ads in his sidebar, that adds up to $10k per month. After Blogads’ 20% commission, that adds up to $8k per month, or $96k per year.
Not bad!

These rates are only the advertised rates. It’s unlikely he’s able to fill all the ads all year at full price. Even with such a successful blog. Really, $100,000 for a law professor’s side job is on the low side… if this is the high end of a field with hundreds of millions of members, that’s a cheap field for sure.
Compare it to other things Glenn could do… lawyer, professor, writer… all of those fields have dozens of people earning many times that.
