Compensation is a management tool, and like any tool can be applied for the benefit of the company or the detriment. More often, it is not really recognized as a tool, but seen as a ‘necessary evil’ – of course, we have to pay people, why else would they work for us?! If I can stimulate you to examine or re-examine your compensation philosophy and plan then I’ve met my objective.”
