Blogging Legal Liabilities

Computer World: “Bloggers who write anything negative or defamatory about a corporation or an individual are opening themselves and their companies up to the possibility of libel suits, says David Carr, an attorney and partner at London-based consulting firm Big Blog Co.”

I’ve already experience this first hand. A month or so ago, I received a cease and desist letter from a law firm representing a bizop that I had said was junk. We eventually settled and I’ve agreed to not discuss it further, but it shows how dangerous these types of suits can become.

If you prefaced your remarks with, “You should check this out for yourself, but in my opinion it’s…”, would that make any difference. It shows you’re only stating your opinion.

BTW, IMO the little dialog box that pops up, when I post a message could be eliminated. It’s just an extra mouse click.

What a great job… Get $150 an hour to write nasty letters telling other people to cease and desist.

They’re just hoping that decent people don’t want to waste their time dealing with the scum they represent.

And most of the time it’s not worth it unless your calling in life is exposing the bums they represent.

I had a print journal. I made a policy of writing about companies that were worth considering. Then if someone called and said “What about XXXX?” I’d say… I only review companies that I feel have potential.
