More Preadolescent Entrepreneurs

Following up on my earlier post about getting your kids started as entrepreneurs, here are two fathers that are preparing their daughters for a life outside the cubicle:

Chris O’Donnell:

It is my distinct pleasure to announce the launch of Horseshues.com - your source for unique and personalized gifts created from recycled horseshoes.

The idea was the brainchild of my eight year old daughter and all net proceeds from the venture go into her savings for the first horse in her herd. I did the web site, all the product development work is done by Delaney.

[We] have structured her start up capital as a loan that will be paid back. She is responsible for keeping the books too.

Daryl Cobranchi:

Our older daughter has started a snack shop that she runs for the benefit of the g-schoolers as they walk by our house at the end of the day. She’s selling candy and other assorted junk foods. So far, she’s averaging about $10 in sales per day. Her profit margin is nice, too– ~50% on average.

Of course, it has to be educational; we’re making her calculate her daily and weekly profit. She also has to keep a very simple ledger.

She wants to have her own ballet studio when she’s all grown up. This is her first taste of being in business for herself.
