Gladys Edmund in USA Today: “Days before President George W. Bush called former Presidents Clinton and Bush together to help raise awareness for disaster relief, entrepreneurs from every corner in the world were digging deep into their pockets and using creative resources to help survivors of the tsunami. I have received e-mails apprising me of the many things that entrepreneurs are doing to show their support to aid the disaster relief. Charles Oppman, owner of Café Marianna, a restaurant in Alexandria, Va., has pledged 20% of his restaurant’s profits for the month of January to relief efforts. Potomac Valley Brick and Supply Company in Rockville, Md., has donated $10,000 toward relief efforts. A number of small businesses that can’t afford to send large sums of money are teaming up and organizing their own fund raising efforts. I have heard and read of fund-raising efforts from charity auctions to jazz concerts. Over the many months to come we will see and hear of more and more businesses helping to restore the communities that have experienced loses.”
