Help me get a Mac mini and I’ll paypal you $5.
I think Apple’s new Mac mini will be a huge hit. The combination of its size, looks (both inside and out), functionality and price point (not much more than an iPod!) is bound to make a lot of people give one a try and switch.
What’s even better than cheap though? How about FREE? All you need to do is
- Go to http://www.FreeMiniMacs.com/?r=14108601
- Complete one online offer
- Convince 10 of your friends (or weblog readers;-) to do the same
and a couple months later a free 80GB Mac mini will find its way to your home.
This may seem like it’s too good to be true, and potentially a scam, but it’s not. This offer is from the same people that did freeipods.com, and there are plenty of reports online from people who’ve received their free iPod through that service. The way it works is that the company behind this gets money for every online offer completed, and getting 10 referrals will make them enough money to send you a Mac mini. Will this cause a lot of spam? Not sure - Most people seem to report little or no spam as a result of this service. Personally, I created a special email just for this, and will update this post in a week or so to let you know how much spam I received on that email account.
According to their Terms and Conditions, this offer is only for US residents by the way, so if you’re considering this but live elsewhere, it seems like you’re out of luck.

UPDATE: A few people reported running into some issues with the freeminimacs website. If you’re having trouble getting to the offers page after signing up, just go to their Login page and sign on again using the email address and password you entered before. This should take you directly to the offers.
When you complete an offer, your email address will show up in my status page. When it does, I will wait 24 hours and then paypal $5 to it. If you complete an offer and don’t want me to send the money to that address, let me know and I will send it to whatever address you’d like. Offer good for first ten people to complete an offer.

I don’t know, man. This sure sounds like a good way to get a ton of spam e-mail. And isn’t this a pyramid scheme of some sort?

I know it does look that way Ted, but from my research, it appears to be totally legit.
Read this article in Wired about FreeiPods.com, run by the same “customer acquisition” company.

Also, if you’re worried about spam, I have tons of available Gmail invites. :)
