Business Europe:

Businessesforsale.com says there is high demand for businesses in this sector among women who are either launching for the first time or planning to grow existing operations.

Hair and beauty salons, cafes, diners, hotels and guesthouses were other sectors favoured by female entrepreneurs, said the group.

Marcus Markou, chairman at Businessesforsale.com, said: “Women want a business that is both challenging and rewarding and this type of business provides them with just that.

Separate recent research shows that self-employed women are becoming more and more widespread, closing the gap between their male counterparts.

The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor shows that for every 100 male entrepreneurs there were 46 women who started their own business in 2004, compared with 43 in the previous year.
