The Pros and Cons of PO Boxes

Quicken.cm:

Most people who work from home use their home address for both personal and business mail. “If you have letterhead, business cards, and marketing materials that are of high quality and are well designed, your home address should pose no problem,” Zelinsky asserts. “I think post office addresses are a dead giveaway that the business is home based, plus no overnight packages can be delivered to post office box addresses.” Nevertheless, she acknowledges that some people prefer not to give out a home address, “perhaps because you have lots of inventory stashed inside your house.” If you do decide to use a post office address, you can get around the problem of overnight deliveries by including both your street address and post office box for courier deliveries.

  • I’ve recently experienced some problems with my PO Box. It was time to renew my PO Box @ my local post office last month. I was denied the renewal because of the post office’s new ID requirements. I had recently moved so my ID’s didn’t match. Now I have to get my girlfriend to renew it for me–no big deal really, but still a pain. I considered changing to MailBoxes, etc. but the closest store is 23 miles away from me, surprising as I am in a major US city.

Nice blog here. I’ll stop by on the regular and contribute when I can.

  • I love having a PO box. In my case, a lot of people thought I had an office on Park Ave. People are not as savvy as Zelinsky thinks. In addition, I have all my junk mail go to my PO box. Saves me a lot of trouble. Now that I have a true office, I will probably not renew the PO box, however.

  • Good point if you have a choice… I don’t. My small mountain town doesn’t have home delivery, so a P.O. box it is.

  • There is earthlink. It’s a business p.o box through the internet. According to the site you won’t have the address problem anymore. It does cost more though
