How To Pick the Right Business

There are many criteria for identifying a business opportunity. But expecting to start a business without any competition is hardly realistic. If that were your standard, you’d be limiting yourself to starting, perhaps, the only locally owned rocket-launch facility or the only circus-bear training camp in Delaware (and for all I know, someone has staked out those businesses on your turf already).

In my urban neighborhood in Pittsburgh, there are four ice - cream outlets on one block: three chains and a locally owned Rita’s Italian Ice. There are a half-dozen bagel joints within the same radius. That’s the American way, my dear. Competition makes the marketplace go round.

But you ask which businesses have the greatest success. And here’s an interesting insight: Success rates between industries don’t vary that much. Success, it seems, depends on the entrepreneur.
