Comfort Keepers a Keeper?

Franchise Pundit:

As a follow up to the previous post Is caring for the elderly a profitable business?, I’ve been looking at a few other elderly care franchises.  My preliminary favorite is Comfort Keepers. All the non-medical elderly care franchises have roughly a $25K franchise fee and 5% royalties. But, Comfort Keepers sets itself apart with its strong brand recognition, blanket coverage of the United States and internationally, and smart online marketing.

Another Idea: How to Start a Residence For The Elderly Business

I’m just speculating, but wouldn’t most elderly people need someone with a medical background to take care of them? It seems to me that it wouldn’t be very economical for someone to hire Comfort keepers in addition to medical care, but rather instead of. So, it would seem to me that Comfort Keepers is more of a companion for hire.

Hi Michele, elderly people who receive medical care under their medicare insurance are receiving services directly related to their acute medical condition. Acute medical conditions need the supervision of medical personnel. Once the client is somewhat stable, their medical condition may prevent them from performing the activities of daily living such as showering/bathing, going to bathroom, getting to the grocery store, preparing meals, doing laundry or light housekeeping. Medicare does not cover these services because they are of a non-medical nature so most clients end up hiring a Comfort Keeper to assist them. Comfort Keepers provides alot of training for its staff and many of the offices hire certified nursing assistants who have worked in assisted living, nursing homes and hospitals. Comfort Keepers does provide companion care but it also provides hands on assistance to those elderly clients that cannot rise from a chair, needs assistance in shower or toileting. Economically speaking it is much cheaper to hire a Comfort Keeper to assist a person in home one on one than to spend hundreds of dollars a day in a facility where the person cannot get to the bathroom without help and have to wait for staff that might be helping another patient on the floor.

Melody is right<elderly really need all the midecal attention, because they are very old to do what they did when they are still young, thats why western country has a home who cares to keep the elderly, and they have a midecal stuff who are trained to assist the elderly.
