Talkback Tuesday #2
My post Office or Home Based Business? generated quite a bit of talk. Chris De La Rosa wrote:
I’ve been working from home doing several different things internet related and not only have I been successful, I love it. I dread the thought of going back to a daily 9-5. Not to mention the circus the daily commute can be.
Michele, on the other hand, had a bittersweet reaction to the same post:
Oh, boy, where should I start? I started my own home based business in Febuary. While for the most part it has been wonderful there are still many issues I face and my biggest issue is just that…I’m home based. I’m not as productive as I could be. It’s easy to procrastinate when you work from home. And…I don’t get the respect I should. People just don’t want to believe that you are “actually working” if you don’t leave your home for 8+ hours a day.
Martin echoed Michele’s sentiment:
If your business is a pure internet business (ie: you never meet a client face-to-face, it’s all done online) then running it from home should cause no problems. The only issue is self-discipline – get out of the mindset that it’s a “home business” and get to think it’s just A business. Full Stop!
Holis, though, thinks that the benefits far outweight the costs:
Having had my own business and done both, I found I was less productive in the office away from the home; was reluctant to take work home. At home, I was accessible 24/7.
