Insurance Costs Stopping New Business
Yahoo featured an article today about a study done by the Kauffman Foundation t(one of the leading advocates of entrepreneurs in the world!) that found that the raising cost of health insurance is preventing entrepreneurs from starting businesses. Carl Schramm, CEO at the Kauffman Foundation asks:
“Would we have 100,000 more (business) starts next year if people thought they could go buy affordable coverage?” The study answers yes.
I could not agree more. One thing that prevents people from striking out on their own and keeps then in their jobs is health insurance. Individuals and small groups always pay more.

what can companies do to receive cheaper healthcare?
is there an opportunity for entrepreneurs in this situation?
can an entrepreneur start up a limited, lower rate health insurance company for other entrepreneurs?

Some of us are essentially opting out of the current system by doing a Health Savings Account: http://blogs.caseysoftware.com/?q=node/40

It is unfortunate to hear so many businesses are not opening up over the cost of health insurance. Health insurance is a major aspect to many individual and with group health the business can have benefits as well as the employees.

It is so unfortunate that employers can’t even afford coverage for their employees anymore. I how Obama can implement the changes in our Healthcare system that he has promised!
