Can A Home Wind Turbine Make Money?

Domestic wind turbines have been described as “the new handbags” – the latest luxury items craved by those who want to be first to try new technology. But this description overlooks their green credentials, because any electricity powered by the elements is reducing CO2 emissions, which are blamed for global warming.
And there are also the financial motivations.
A household with a windmill can save money on bills and sell excess electricity back to the national grid. So could wind turbines become a nice little earner?

Not in the US yet (or at least not as in that picture from the BBC). I wanted to get one for my home and it isn’t really possible without 1.5 acres of property due to installation mandates from the government.

How about now? With the way things have changed, I would think now is the time. Agreed? If so, where can you buy a franchise to sell Wind Power?

The theory is sound, unfortunatly the economics are not. At present, the fees charged by grid companies for metering are be far, far more than a home turbine can earn.

Could I make money if I had about 30 acres of mountain land in Arizona? How would I go about finding out about this? I’d like to get several turbines and sell the energy–is that lucrative or even possible? Thanks for your help

You can,
I’m starting a small personal wind tubine business in montana, the pay off for salesmen, installation specialists, and the customer has never been better. Rebates and tax incentives are everywhere! Just look for them!

Hi, I am looking into building a wind turbine business in South Dakota. I have 700 acres and would like to make use of this barren land. There is definitely a lot of wind in the Dakotas. Thank you for responding,
Sharon Owen
