Fear Mediocrity
Shahid N. Shah on his motivation for being an entrepreneur:
I like doing something useful for a customer that they can’t easily get done somewhere else. My motto is to “fear mediocrity because mediocrity is what I feel many companies end up fostering in their employees through poor management and improper incentives. Entrepreneurs must be the best at what they do otherwise there’s no salary (which is a heck of an incentive). When I’ve worked for others there was sometimes a desire to do what was best for the boss or company, not what was best for the customer. My biggest motivation is to allow my customer to get difficult things done quickly and without hassle.

Glad to see you saw my interview over at SoloTees — and that you caught the main idea about fearing mediocrity. Thanks for quoting me :-).
As a followup to my pet peeve that many people forget that they actually work for customers and not a company, see my article Do we technologists care about our customers?
