Mobile media is coming…quicker than you think!
Did you know that:
- More people are connected to the Internet via mobile phones than computers
- Most people in the world will experience broadband Internet on their phones and not a computer
- Mobile phone users in South Korea send over 1500 SMS a month and many use their phone to do 100% of their email
- As of Nov 1, 2005, 39.4 million people in the US have multimedia-enabled phones (M:Metrics)
People want to view mobile photos and video content in real-time. Your mobile handset is arguably the best device to capture and create this content. Carriers can’t deliver this new consumer service since they only understand how to sell minutes and bytes. One new service that allows consumers to broadcast and share personalized mobile media content is PixPulse.com which recently launched their public beta.
David Xue is the founder of PixPulse and has provided some insight into the service and also complied useful member feedback into his post below:

Our goal is “To provide consumers the best mobile experience for publishing and sharing media. PixPulse is not a photo storing site or another social network, but rather a mobile network for sharing ‘live’ in-the-moment media.
PixPulse is a service that will help you share your mobile media directly to your friend’s mobile devices so they get to instantly view and comment. Your group of friends can share and chat about photos and videos taken during their day. This is a free service that works on all multimedia phones across all carriers.
PixPulse tries to deliver a clear user friendly experience through both the website and WAP portal. Members get their own personal “PixPulse Channel with unlimited storage which can be used to broadcast their own personalized content. Every time you or a friend adds new media, an SMS notification is automatically sent which contains a link to the media to start chatting with friends immediately. There are members on the site from Australia sharing media with friends in Italy.
Mobile media needs to be interactive and with broad device and carrier support. PixPulse is working toward this goal.
