Tradeshows = Huge

Startup Guide:

I am involved in two product related start ups as an adviser and partner which will both probably hit the market within the same time frame. As research and planning is being conducted by each respective team, I am beginning to realize the importance of trade shows. Every industry you can think of has trade shows. These are great opportunities to learn more about your industry, network, find potential suppliers/customers, and begin spreading the word about your start up. The downfall is these events are expensive. The entry fees are expensive, getting a table is even more expensive, and then there are all the travel related expenses.

  • I’ve found that tradeshows are good networking opportunities as well, but definitely come at a price. Average entry fee for a booth is usually between $2000 and $3000. Remember if you are showcasing a product you will sometimes need more then one booth. They are usually only a 10′ x 10′ space.

    Make sure you ask for their attendance statistics to see if it is worthwhile. One of the most important is their attendee to exhibitor ratio. I recommend not entering anything that has less then a 4:1 ratio.
