Times Online:

Guy Garfit is getting ready to launch his first business, an online shop selling large-print books for the visually impaired, at the end of March.

Like any entrepreneur, he is alternately excited and nervous, constantly fretting about delays and spending every waking hour focusing on his venture. Unlike the majority of entrepreneurs, however, Garfit is not a fresh-faced school leaver or a disillusioned mid-twenties career breaker. Garfit is 58.

What’s more, he is not alone. Thanks to myriad factors such as greater longevity and uncertainty over pension payouts, a growing number of over-fifties are taking the plunge and starting their own business at an age when people used to be getting ready to spend their days doing crosswords or playing golf It makes a lot of sense.
