As a vice president and corporate counsel for a New Jersey-based defense contractor, Jonathan T. Mann seemed to have a good legal gig. His earned well over $200,000 annually, more than enough for his family to live on comfortably in a suburban community four miles from his office. But all wasn’t well. Mr. Mann had intended to stay for a while with Parsippany-based DRS Technologies Inc. when he joined it in 2002. But a good portion of his job consisted of work that he thought wasn’t appropriate for his level of seniority, such as negotiating nondisclosure agreements, he says. While Mr. Mann loved the law, in this role, “the joy went out of it,” he says.
In August 2005, he left DRS to go on his own. The move was hard on his family, which feared financial hardship. “They were worried and scared,” he says. “But I couldn’t fake it any more. I wasn’t happy with my job, and I felt I had to reinvent myself.” (The company confirmed that Mr. Mann left DRS voluntarily to pursue other career options and declined to comment further.)

I was reading my feeds this morning and got startled to see my own window on the screen. Of course, it’s not green with a few leaves right now. Piled up snow and ice aren’t quite as pleasant, but I still like my odd little view. Glad you liked the photo. This is why I open source my photos. More people get to use them.
