I’m in the market for a new hosting company. My dedicated server is bogging down and I’m tired of the lack of customer support at my current host.
Any recommendations?

I very rarely want to kill the folks at Dreamhost. Almost never, actually.

I have to say we love (and have for about three years now) Rackspace.com. They are not the cheapest provider, but I seriously can’t image a better one.

Tilted.com is a serious host for people who run their business online. Rackspace would be my second choice. We would not truly consider many others for our business.

I’ve been with vervehosting.com for a couple of years and have been very happy. I host ten sites on my space (both personal and business), and it’s pretty inexpensive.

I’ve been quite happy with GoDaddy.com’s hosting service. I only use their $3.99/month basic shared hosting plan… can’t really comment on their dedicated server plans.

I used to be on a Rackspace server and they do provide excellent service. When my needs changed, I moved 10 sites to hostm, it is not a dedicated environment, rather shared hosting but I am still amazed at the service.

I heartily recommend http://rimuhosting.com
They provide a great VPS service, which I reviewed and compared extensively on my blog before choosing them. So far they’ve been nothing but excellent.
The VPS comparison and why I chose them is available here: http://coderseye.com/2006/why-rimuhosting-is-my-new-vps-provider.html
Note, the blog is hosted on Dreamhost, which is too slow for my taste but is very cheap. I use Rimuhosting for my business, not my blog.

I’ve had good luck with http://www.site5.com. I think it is $65 a year for 5GB of space.

I must say that I have had nothing but GREAT results using GoDaddy’s Virtual Dedicated Servers. They are always up, 24/7 support, and obviously a large company that is not going anywhere soon. I know people are skeptical about GD, but the VDS’s are in a league of their own.
If you are interested I have further details. I even signed up as a reseller of their products and have turned on about 20 people to hosting their. (obviously I would love a referral - but I am happy to provide information anyways)

I’ve been using johncompanies.com for some time, and never had a glitch. Even performing a memory upgrade was done very well with minimum disruption in the time window that was agreed to.
For non urgent things, turnaround is not the fastest though.
For colocation, I’ve been really happy with qwest (not the cheapest though).
I don’t have direct experience with dedicated servers from dreamhosts or goddaddy (only shared so far), but their servers are well configured, run smoothly and support has been adequate in relation to the severity.

I would suggest checking out ServerBeach.com if you still want a dedicated host at a good price - I used them for a couple of years and things went great. The downside is that they give you full access to the server and then you’re on your own unless something breaks. So if you need support to actually perform configuration etc. for you, they aren’t the one to go with, but if you just need a decent server, plenty of space, and plenty of bandwidth, you should check them out.

What ever you do, don’t go with HostM. I dont understand how it is possible that many servers can have major hardware failure requiring 3 days down time. I have read about many instances of this happeneing, and I am going through my second of this week. (which doesn’t leave very much up time.) Do not consider using them if you are planning to run any kind of business site which requires working email.
