This is just a pyramid scheme as far as I know this is illegal. But there are other ways to make money online with a Make Money Toolbar I recently found at makemoneytoolbar.com . Have a look, maybe this is something for you ????

If people would learn how to effectively market online and how to really make money, they certainly would not be wasting their time promoting this “make money with PayPal as seen on Oprah” garbage.
Perhaps you should visit my website to see the real way to earn online.

Yes, I am planning to create an account through Paypal and just wondering how true this is. Is this some kind a scam, or is it real?
I would appreciate for a response.
Pink on November 15th, 2006 3:32 pm
Vince:
I would suggest you to go direclty to Paypal ‘s official website in order to avoid any kind of scam.
http://www.Paypal.com
Remember to be careful when receiving so called “Paypal” email where a lot of times they are not from the Official Paypal even with a paypal email address.
Just be sure that you DO NOT click on the link of the emails to login, because that way you can’t tell whether that’s the real deal or not. The best way is just to go directly to check your paypal account.
Hope this helps

Isn’t it illegal to use a celebrity’s name to promote something like this?
Tom on December 8th, 2006 12:40 pm
Maybe it is a scam and maybe it isn’t.
I have seen testimonials from people that claim to have made thousands. I am going to try it as a list building source. You know what really is a scam: people making unfounded statements then promoting their program. How’s that effective marketing?
ollie on February 18th, 2007 2:49 am
An easy way to tell if it is a scam:-
If you have to pay someone money for the information it is most likely a scam. Example: Genuine work from home job. then you have to pay them to give you a job. SCAM!!!!!

Open Mind on February 26th, 2008 12:19 am
Haha, this is very funny, but definitely not illegal. Why would it be illegal to send money to people? I’ve never tried it, but what if we all stopped talking about it, and just participated? We would lose a few bucks, and soon make a few thousand..haha..It really was on Oprah..not illegal!
wilsonkm on March 5th, 2008 12:25 pm
Well I’ve seen the letter before and did all my investigating like I always do….
Now I have come to conclude that this system does work. I believe it works all the time, but it is the people that fail if they abuse it to an extent. Like the letter says, the system works with HONESTY AND INTEGRITY, so that means I am cheating if I remove the 1st address, move the rest up by 1, place mine at the bottom, and send the email without giving $5 to the 1st and last person (or something like that). That’s when it’s a scam, I believe, if I make $40,000 or something and I did not even help anyone out with $5, if you know what I mean. Not only that, nowhere in the letter does it say that the person receiving the email is required to participate, but it is only encouraged to give it a try.
The truth is that you can get what you want as long as you can help others get what they want. To make a lot of money means to help others change their lives without expecting a return. And no, giving money without being asked to do so is not illegal. Anyone who tries this system out should understand that with any money making system, no income guarantees are made. Regardless of many people’s opinions, I may consider it to give this system a try and see what happens without expecting anything back. And if I reap the rewards from the email, I will let you know.
My two cents.

Oldskool on April 3rd, 2008 5:18 am
Well I tried it, posted it on about 5 sites then stopped because I was afraid of doing something Illegal after reading all the negative feed back from Sites like this one. Anyways came back 2 to 3 months later and had received $15 in my pay pal account, what do people mean a pyramid scheme, do you even know what you are saying.. If you work for some one, your in a pyramid scheme..go to church..grocery store…bla bla bla..is that like some evil being with two heads.. well depends on the scheme..who cares.. get a life..keep your $5 for another cheese burger and fries and waste some more time writing negative rubbish…. I agree with Mr Open Mind..shut up and just try something..after all if your to tight fisted to help a fellow human being in this world and send someone $5 then we are all are doomed.. I bet if I said give me your email and I’ll send you $5 my inbox would be full..keep it real Peace!!

after a lot of thought i decided to try the mailing list. this is where u send each person a dollar ask to b added to their mailing list. I thought a $1.oo investment that may help some one else reach their dreams would be great. then i saw if everyone could see past.. doubts… scams… ect… really see the potentional of sending just a dollar to six people and possibly getting back fifty,a hundred , a thousand or thousands of dollars then why the heck not! i read the secret and law of attraction works. we all want to pay r bills and pay them off, so lets help each other. they pay their bills , i pay mine. we pay off our debts. economy improves . we spend more becuase we have more. mailing them cost me 150.00 i just read the paypal way. I am going to try it this way too. i believe in people, stay honest be positive and maybe we all can benefit… i got my first return today. i am hopeful.

It’s Legal…I saw it on Oprah …along with millions of other people , where over 1/2 participated in it and posted 200 letters each and loaded up all of the websites and search engines . The problem now…where do you post the letters to get to people that have never seen them ?? This is very hard work .
This money is all electronically tracked by PayPal and your Bank and reported to the IRS .
The reason it’s legal is that , The Federal Trade Commission and The IRS , can go into your PayPal and Bank accounts and access all of the email addresses that sent you money . You have to pay your taxes on this income !! This is not some money hidden in an envelope that sneaks past the post office ….this money Is tracked 100% . That’s Why It’s Legal !!
The other deal with it….you have to do a compilation of all of the emails you get that send you money . You can sell the list to huge cooporations and they will pay big bucks for it as the participants are considered business opportunist . If you fail to do the list …you are guilty of embezzlement of funds for services not rendered …these people paid you to be on a list .
Yes You Can Make Money With It . You have to have a PayPal Premier or Merchant Account to do this , otherwise you are limited to receive $500 in your account and can be suspended from PayPal fro not playing by their rules and they will return all of the money that comes .
So you take a $6.00 chance ….it’s only $6.00 !!

Hi everyone!
For the few sceptics on this message board, I really wish you would give this a try. Remember, nothing ventured, nothing gained! You’re here complaining about $6, and yet, you probably spend $100-$200 a year on lottery tickets, and have never won any significant amount of noney, am I right so far? I will not divulge how much I have made so far, but, I will tell you that it does works beautifully. By being honest and truthful, you will make some too. One thing is for sure, if the list, or e-mail comes my way again, I will certainly join again.WHY? So far, it has been even better than I expected. So, for all of you who have doubts, don’t be afraid to give it a try, you will make some money, and even more if you send out a lot of mail and advertise this great system. I have no regrets, in fact, I am rejoicing right now, and you will too. I have nothing to gain by telling you this right now, only YOU, will gain if you join.Remember, send, send, send to everyone you know, and post on all message boards you come accross, you will most definetely benefit for your effort.

This is a pyramid scheme, used through chain letters. Both are illegal. The show Oprah did about it was about con artists! Idiots…
Reina on September 22nd, 2008 10:44 am
OK, I received this letter a few days ago and I have a few things to say. First of all, I did my homework and there is no evidence whatsoever that Oprah said anything about this PayPal letter at all. Oprah’s name get’s thrown around a lot, the easy way to check is to go to her site and look it up for yourself. All of Oprah’s shows are archived, and there for anyone to look up, try for yourself…it’s not there.
Second of all, there is no concrete evidence I have found that this is truly legal and, in fact, you are most likely to get your PayPal account suspended or terminated if you participate. I use my PayPal account to make a living, so this would be devastating to me.
Be careful! There are real ways to make money on the internet, but this is not one of them.

Why would you believe people who you dont know to make money. This is part of the con to pretend to be a customer who made lots of money to convince you to hand over your money. Oprah NEVER condoned this or a part of it. Where’s a clip to see what she said? It does not exists. Using celebrity name is just another way of gaining your trust to get your money. Those who pretending to make money are part of this $6 investment scam. Stop believing in people you dont know and do a little research. The only one who is making money from this is the ones who are asking you to send money to them.

It seems as though the people who have participated in the mailing lists through the US Postal Service are the ones with the success. I attempted the paypal/email method and it seemed like too much of a hassell to sit around and post to 200 different message boards. If you read the comments carefully there are success stories on here. The ones who are badmouthing it seem to have their own moneymaking website posted directly below their comment. Think about the source before you miss out on an opportunity. I will be trying out the method.
Dylan Red on March 31st, 2009 8:52 pm
Ok here’s what I think… if you put your email address associated with your paypal account out there on a bajillion message boards, you’ll have to close the account due to serious spamming and, if this is illegal, all your info is quickly trackable so you could get busted fast. I’m collecting a list of all the email addresses I run across and will email a few to see if they are really getting paid or if they’re in jail! Will report back.
The physical mailing scheme sounds safer since you can’t track a bunch of dollar bills. However it’s obvious that the “mailing list company” that you order names from is making a killing! That web site is still up and running, so I assume what they’re doing is legal.
Fabulous. How do you get a mailing list of gullible people without paying these guys for it? If we’re going to try this, we need to do it spending the least amount of money. I have a couple of ideas. Who’s in?? email me. It’s my name, no spaces, at dr.com .. I’m serious, I’m going to set up a trial so we all have REAL data about this thing. if anyone has ideas, drop me a line.

Only thing illegal about this is if you don’t report the money on your taxes once you have it, does it work, yes if you find willing participants, got to spam the news groups with your letters.
I tried it, had to post like hell, but does work if it comes across the right person, I never made thousands, but it did help me out of a jam of bills for a while. Also put it into my checking account, and paid taxes legally on it.
Want to make it more legal, go to http://www.voeveo.com/ they pay with paypal, make a picture of yourself, get others do do the same as a mobile screensaver, post it on a link to where to buy, with other links from others, actually sell a product by chain letter.
Nothing different, just organized giving thats all.

anyone thought of asking a lawyer?
ricky on June 29th, 2009 7:53 am
I’m not sure if anyone knows this, but there is an easier way to do this all and legally.
and all though people keep saying this is legal, its a bit questionable. if indeed you are offering a spot in your mailing list, you actually need to have a mailing list somewhere. you need to be selling something for it to be legal.
i’m just here offering the alternative. i’m sure we all just need or want money, or both, and that’s why we’re all on here.
anyways, there is a way to invest your six dollars and actually sell something to make it legal, and yes you use paypal so the payments are still instant, and paypal will have no problem with it, sometimes these things violate their TOS, and they have the right to withhold the money in your account.
well, to learn more here is the http://bit.ly/DEBo.
well good luck to all.

20% of the population is wealthy while the other 80% are skeptics….
I don’t believe this is a scam I received the letter in the mail and I plan on trying it although it’s cheaper to do it the PayPal way, I think it may be more profitable through mail order, because you don’t have sites like this filling peoples head with skepticism, and you don’t have to worry about places to post or someone constantly threatening that this is illegal you just simply order a mailing list of peel & stick labels.
I believe this can absolutely work if everyone stops doubting it and participate we could all help each other achieve wealth.
Christopher on May 11th, 2010 5:27 am
I used this idea to see if would work. So as to ensure it was legal, I purchased something for $6 and then received a website to promote to others. As I had purchased something this made it 100% legal. Same idea as the Oprah thing but legal. I found $6 bucks nothing. It has earned me a couple of hundred dollars so far. Not a way to riches but still a couple of a hundred so far for $6 is ok by me.

The old saying still holds true: “stupidity is its own reward”.
1. It’s illegal.
2. It breaches PayPal’s AUP.
3. Your publish your PayPal account email address on the message itself as proof of your participation in an illegal scheme.
4. You still thinks it’s perfectly legal.
*D’oh!*

ok so i rec’d the letter in the mail and i want to try i checked the names on my list and they were legit i even checked myself but i didn’t show, let’s just think for a moment if u ask 1 million people for a dollar how much would u get? now im not expecting a million dollars but there are billions of people in the world… now i read the blogs but what im noticing is that they’re expecting to receive money from those people and that’s not how it works u only mail them the $1 and asked to b put on their list not mail them the letter again. I also checked usdatafax with the bbb and they are accredited and have rec’d an A+ grade. so here’s what i propose we shld try it. Remember you’re not hurting anyone, like theives or drug dealers…anyway i”ll get back to ya’ll and let you knw what happened
marsha on June 24th, 2010 12:24 am
and just like oprah commented on the other scam about her giveaways or foundation not sure which one and stated it was a scam how come nothing has been said about this. The letter telling u that u won $40,000 and they send you a check for $2000 and ask you to send $200 for processing fees made the news why didn’t this and my cousin actually cashed the check for the $2000 but did not send the $200 and later it was charged back but still that made the news…if this is a scam its not being dealt with and with the state of our economy let’s look at this $1 come on people
Gonna try on October 4th, 2010 10:17 am
I also researched it over and over and I looked on Oprah’s site and I did find it there. I waste more than 6 bucks every morning so why not give it a shot.

It’s ILLEGAL and PayPal WILL shut down your account as soon as it detects your involvement (and freeze your funds).
Here’s a recent (2010) copy of the usual PayPal $6 email sent to prospective suckers — and, further down the page, transcripts from a successful court case by the FTC for an identical scam that should make alarming reading for anyone kidding themselves that this scam is legal and ethical, etc…

why is it wrong to send some one a dollar. This isn’t some company ripping you off these are good hard earning people just sending $1.00 to 6 people thats it!End of story no conspiracy,no scam everybody wins as long as you play by the rules. And send your dollar. What is difference if for 5 years i collect dvds and i decide to sell them i accumulate 2,000 of them i sell $5.00 each on Ebay.I make $10,000.00 dollars so why is it legal. And this sending $1.00 to 6 people isn’t your still going to have to pay taxes on the money you make and Paypal still going to get there monthly fee.So why is it illegal your not breaking any laws.As far as i can see.If everybody would follow the instructions and send their dollar we could make some serious money with little “RISK”.
John Counsel on November 11th, 2010 12:13 pm
ASH wrote: “So why is it illegal your not breaking any laws.As far as i can see.”
1. ‘There are none so blind as they who WILL NOT see’ is still 100% true.
2. There are laws outlawing this kind of scam in almost every country.
3. It’s illegal because it breaks those laws!
4. It’s breaks PayPal’s own Acceptable Use Policy: they WILL close your account and freeze your funds (and return them the the people who paid) as soon as they detect your illegal activity — a report you to authorities in your own country.
5. Can you pronounce “d-u-m-b, d-u-m-b-er, s-u-i-c-i-d-a-l-l-y s-t-o-o-p-i-d”?

Why is John C. so personally invested in boorishly, and insultingly crushing people’s hopes? Calling desperate people “dumb” and “stupid” for trying to find ways to survive the bleak financial straits so many of us are in today?
Let me guess…his answer: “Get a job!”
Have you TRIED lately? It’s not quite as easy as it may have been years back. If he has a good paying job, great. I kind of wish he’d just go DO it, leave us poor folks alone, and quit gloating over us.
…He’s posted *how many* times?! Makes you wonder if he gets some financial gain from it, or if life is just so empty that he actually gets jollies from kicking people who are down…
Camilla on December 27th, 2010 1:38 am
This is SO dissapointing!
So many people are so full of fear. I have not used this Paypal Method before, but I’d definitely be willing to give it a shot! Why not? Simply because it’s a “chain letter” and someone, somewhere, sometime declared them all to be evil?
I’ve read posts that say people get defrauded by this. That chain letters, pyramid schemes and ponzi schemes ruin peoples lives. Seriously is sending $1 to 6 separate people going to bankrupt you? Getting “down-sized” or laid off, or “out-sourced” – that will bankrupt you. Using your movie-popcorn money ($6) to invest in your future will not.
Will you be dooming others to lives in the gutter if you encourage them to use $6 to potentially revolutionize their financial lives, instead of buying 1 McDonalds combo meal? Get some perspective people!
Is the Paypal Method a Pyramid Scheme? — The classic “Pyramid Schemes” were so dangerous because they required people to invest THOUSANDS of dollars, and then wait until they move up the pyramid before getting ANYTHING in return. That’s the kind of program that can spell financial ruin, and is unsustainable. But asking people to have enough hope to risk just $1? I think it is totally different & makes complete sense.
And when you think about it, EVERY business is a pyramid. The CEO is at the top, then the Board, then VP’s, managers, & employees. It gets even wider if you include advertisers and distributors. Seeing a pyramid structure, anyone? I’m not saying it’s illegal, I’m just saying pyramids are not inherantly evil…they simply work. Regarding the un-sustainability of pyramids, (because you will mathematically exceed the population of the planet), regular businesses are no different. They too would eventually run out of new customers too. How do they avoid this? Repeat customers. Repeat customers are the only way traditional businesses survive and grow. Pyramids can have repeat users too, so the “you will run out of prople” idea is just baseless and short-sighted.
Is the Paypal Method a Ponzi Scheme? — Ponzi schemes tell new investors that their money will be used for one purpose, when it is actually being used for another. Clear deceptive practice. That is WHY Ponzi schemes are illegal. This Paypal Method is not deceptive. If someone sends $6, they know exactly who they are sending the money to. They have the e-mail addresses. Where is the deception?
Ponzi schemes also use fresh investors money to make old users think (non-existant) investments are paying off. Several layers of deception there! But in this Paypal Method, no one is given an illusion about where money goes or comes from. It is upfront and transparent. It is NOT a Ponzi scheme.
The ONLY reason that I might ultimately decide not to do this is because I can’t be sure that other people will ACTUALLY send me $1 before just re-posting the letter. If i could be sure of that, then I would jump on this right away!
Anyway, it’s just saddening to me to see – in this country of pioneers, trail-blazers, independent-thinkers, and people who have historically not been afraid to change the world – so many people so down-trodden and cynical as to just give the knee-jerk reply of “don’t do it, or you’ll get in trouble.” Without even really thinking about WHY would it get you in trouble? IS it really the same as those notorious scams we’ve heard of that are clearly devised to benefit some by destroying others? IS it different? WHAT harm could it cause (if any)? What good could it do (if any)?
There are apparently MANY people here who do what they’re told BECAUSE someone tells them. Maybe that works for some people. But remember, King George TOLD our (American) forefathers to pay their taxes too…
Think about it.

Camilla,
1. I get NO financial benefit from helping people avoid scams and rip-offs.
2. I provide factual, authoritative information from a variety of official sources. Not opinions. Not feelings. Not beliefs. Not what I WANT to be true.
3. You make an awful lot of assumptions about me, what I do and why I do it, all wonderfully devoid of any facts. Have you actually bothered to read any of the information provided? Visited any of the links? “Googled” me to find out more? Try here: http://johncounsel.biz/john.
4. Any boorish behaviour, if you read my posts carefully, in context with preceding posts from people actively promoting or defending this illegal, deceptive, risky scam, is directed squarely at those individuals and their motives and attitudes.
I understand your position, but in the end what you really seem to be saying is that you don’t LIKE what I’m saying because it’s not what you WANT to be true. In other words, emotionally-driven opinion and desire with no basis in fact.
Sorry, but people who are desperate make easy prey for predatory scammers. Too often, though, they’re their own worst enemies, succumbing to what they WANT to hear and WANT to be true.
“If the shoe or cap fits”, you know?
John
