How Many Hours a Day Should You Work on Your Startup?
May 11, 2006 by Dane Carlson | 6 Comments
Jason Reuben:
A grunt doesn’t take care of themselves, they work work and work some more. Every person has a breaking point, after
the tenth hour trying to figure out which supplier to choose you start losing efficiency. Your brain creativity slows down, your mood takes a turn for the worst and your accuracy dwindles away.
A genius sleeps at 10pm wakes up at 6am, reads the paper, eats a well balanced breakfast, jogs around the block, reads their favorite mystery novel, efficiently works on their young startup and socializes with their friends/family.

How many hours a day do you work on your startup?

Ouch!
And thanks… I needed that kick in the butt!
It is a myth that the majority of producers live these crazy, disorganized, frenetic lifestyles. But the evidence in my own life says otherwise. When I stay on a somewhat balanced schedule, I produce more and better material. But the glamour and attraction of the go go go sure is enticing!

There is a lot of truth in that, it’s tought to keep a balance…the start up process is very addicting.
Can you tell that I’m an addict?
I thought it said: “…jogs around the block reading their favorite mystery novel…” LOL

Great advice.
My children were just babies when my first startup went operational. I never neglected time with family and friends although I did very occasionally work 7 days a week but with strict business hours. Breakfast together in the morning and always (well almost always) home in time for a meal with the whole family.

On my first start-up, i work at least 4~5 hours, but now i work at least 19hours a day. Sometime working too long in front of the monitor, you might forget that there are friends and family behind you. This is not a good way to work long hours. Make sure you get enough sleep, and spend more times with family, then family. Although work is important, but without your family support you wouldn’t be here. OOps..its like i am talking too much.
