Rhonda Abrams in USA Today:

Summer’s just about here, and you know what that means: vacation. Oh, you haven’t taken a vacation in years because you have no one to mind your business while you’re gone? Well, it’s about time you did.

With a little planning, you can go away with little or no negative effects on your business — even if you work alone or are the only one in an office handling a critical responsibility.

First, you have to decide how much you can — and want to — be in touch while you’re away. If you’re going on safari in Africa, you’re not going to be checking email. On the other hand, if you’re going to your in-laws, you might welcome an excuse to lock yourself in another room for a couple of hours every day.

I’ve been to that place in the picture. It’s the rocks at Ka-anapali Beach on Maui, Hawaii. People jump off these rocks into the ocean – there are higher rocks not shown. cool place!

Dr. Cornwall has a nice post about “your vacation as a sabatical.”

I think it is important for people to have a chance to get away from business for awhile every so often. It keeps you on your feet..
