eBay May Need More Training Before Skype Is Adopted

Internet fax and on-demand communications solutions provider
RingCentral announced this week
the results of its recent online commerce survey, conducted during the
eBay Live 2006 conference.
The survey asked more than 85 eBay merchants categorized as âPower Sellersâ? to share their thoughts about which communications solutions work best to enhance online selling.
RingCentralâs analysis of the survey results found that, although many of the merchants are interested in VoIP and other new communications tools, they also are concerned about the impact of adopting those technologies.
Merchants gave the following reasons for their hesitancy:

87 percent said that traditional forms of communication are the most reliable ones available today.

86 percent said that unifying the various communications tools they use is too complicated.

93 percent said that the biggest challenge is integrating new communications tools together and managing their incoming calls.

42 percent said they arenât planning to adopt VoIP in the next 6-12 months because theyâre concerned about call quality.

24 percent said they consider VoIP to be an unproven technology.
-
15+ percent said they feel new communications technology is difficult to use and lacks mobility.
RingCentralâs CEO, Vlad Shmunis, said of the survey results: âWe discovered that there needs to be more education about VoIP technology to help ease consumer concerns.â?
