Analysts Say eBays Lag Due to Slow Summer
EBay’s recent lag in listings growth is likely a function of seasonally slow summer trends, according to Bear Stearns analyst Robert S. Peck in a report to investors Tuesday.
For the first week of the third quarter, Bear Stearns estimated eBay (nasdaq: EBAY – news - people ) hosted 31.9 million items on its global platforms, a year-over-year increase of 19%, but a 7% decline quarter-over-quarter.
In the U.S., listings in the first week of the quarter were up 2% year-over-year, but down 5% quarter-over-quarter. Similarly, eBay U.K. listings were also down 15% sequentially but up 23% year-over-year.
