My next participant in the 30 Second/One Question Interview series is Yaro Starak. I asked:
One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure. What product or service have you imagined would be a good business opportunity, but you’ve rejected because it’s too off the wall?
Yaro’s response:

I’ve had countless business ideas in the past - something new jumps into my head every day to tell you the truth - but I’ll share with you one of the more ambitious projects I came up with once, something that I doubt I would ever personally go after because of the scale of the thing, but I think it would be a great project nonetheless.
As I run mostly online business I occasionally miss the face-to-face interaction with people that you get from working offline. Of course one of the main reasons I choose to work online is because I don’t have deal with too much customer or client support, but every now and then I crave human interaction, which is why I attend seminars, go to networking groups and try and socialize outside of work whenever I feel the need.
I’m also a huge fan of personal development and consider my own personal development to be my primary motivation in my life - my business is merely a part of this - along with other aspects such as my health and relationships. All these areas I’m constantly studying to improve and working on each day.
All this got me thinking - I love what I do for a living and I can see the real power that comes from focusing on self development, making myself a better person, and I wanted to share these experiences and insights with others. In particular I thought that most men could use training in how to become financially independent, how to handle their relationships better and how to maintain health at the same time. It’s by no means an easy thing to do, the balance is very tricky and I don’t know many men who get it right.
Since I’m a fan of having mentors and attending speaking events I thought an event for men that dealt with all three of those aspects would be great. Just like a huge marketing seminar or convention or boot-camp - I’d bring on boards some well respected people to train men on the three crucial areas -
- Internet business - How to use the web to create a stable income source.
- Relationships - Training on social skills, communication skills,
finding a partner and balancing this with work.- Health - Focus on physical health including exercise and eating well.
Each section would have experts present in each area, there would be interactive elements, lots of networking and meeting new friends - basically a “get your life right boot-camp” for men.
Clearly an ambitious project, but not that unrealistic.
Of course this project would be run as a business, with an attendance fee priced in the thousands of dollars. There would no doubt be product selling at the event like any convention has and each speaker would promote their products and services. The idea would be to run the event each year or even more often, traveling around the world.
Traditionally events like this are run at a loss, since the idea is to upsell premium services like elite coaching clubs, which is fine, the most important thing would be to enhance the life of as many attendees as possible and create awareness of what is possible when you aim to take control of the most crucial parts of your life.
Maybe a bit touchy-feely for some, but a worthy business project I believe.
