Five Strategies For An Effective Ebay Auction

The following is a guest post by Matthew Peschong. Visit his blog at www.CaffeineMarketing.com.

Get it on eBay

When you get registered with Ebay and begin selling you will notice you are stuck in the rut of millions of other listings. But how can you improve your visibility without having to pay extra? It’s simple.

1. See what your competition is doing:

Don’t look at just any competition. Start with the product your trying to sell. Let’s say one is a John Lennon CD. I’m sure there are thousands of John Lennon CD’s for sale on Ebay. What you have to do when researching your market on Ebay is to see which John Lennon CD is selling the best! The listing that has several bids early on in its’ cycle of 7 to 10 days. Those auctions are the ones you need to examine.

See what words they use in their title, product description, photos (are they stock or very well taken), do they provide something the others don’t, and most importantly what is the starting price of the auction.

2. The Keywords In Your Item Description Title:

Think about it like this. The large majority of Ebay buyers use its’ basic search function which returns the results with only the keywords from the item description titles. If you list an item with an item description title with very infrequently searched keywords then you may be out of luck.

Start your item description title optimization by using a keyword tracker tool. These tools are little search boxes that you can type in what you are attempting to sell (John Lennon CD) and will return the results of how many times that keyword and related keywords are searched on various search engines per day.

3. Submit Your Ebay Store To Search Engines or Directories:

Set up partnerships with third party product search engines and drive traffic
to your Ebay store. For more information on how to get started visit:

4. Open An Ebay Store And Use Cross Reference Marketing:

Signing up for an Ebay store is easy and an easy way to market more effectively. I would recommend Ebay stores only to those sellers who want to sell many products over a period of time. Selling old stuff from around the house would not be a good reason to set up a store. The Ebay store you register will cost a monthly fee, however, the average listing fee per product falls from $.55 to a mere $.03 with a gallery picture included. If you list several hundred items at any time this is a great way to save money.

With a store, you also have the option of never having to end your listing. For example, the average non Ebay store listing runs for 7 days. You pay your $.55 and then it’s over. However, when you have an Ebay store you should list that you have 100 of each product (providing you can accomodate that many sales) and use a “buy it now” option. Therefore, every 30 days you will only be charged a mere $.03 for a relisting fee.

Your Ebay buyers will be able to browse all of your products on one page by category.

5. Purchasing Keywords:

I had to do it. This is one route of spending money on advertising on Ebay I would recommend. Much like the explosion of Google Adwords where a business or individual with a web site pays to rank higher for certain searchable keywords, Ebay has followed suit.

With the Ebay banner placement on keyword search pages with Ebay keywords you can purchase keywords and a banner is created that brings more buyers to your auction through keyword searches matched to your listing. Buyers will see your banner above all else.
