Home Depot, the largest U.S. home-improvement retailer, is set to launch in October homedepot.com TV, which will aggregate and expand on its Internet site all of the retailer’s online videos and eventually offer live television shows.
Homedepot.com TV will not only provide how-to information intended to boost sales of the Atlanta retailer, but is also expected to be a profitable venture itself, said Harvey Seegers, president of The Home Depot Direct, the retailer’s catalog and Internet businesses.
Home Depot is lining up paying advertisers, including companies that supply the do-it-yourself retailer’s stores or Internet site and other consumer-products companies that do not. Seegers wouldn’t name potential advertising clients but said the television initiative is an extension of Home Depot’s plans, announced last month, to market advertising space on its Web site to vendors.
Home Depot’s Web site receives 4 million to 5 million visitors weekly, and Seegers believes the company will be the first big-box retailer to offer such programming.
