Police Department Getting Higher Return for Cars on eBay

It’s a lot easier to sell old police cars at local auctions, but it might be more profitable to sell them on eBay.

Fenwick Island Police Department is selling a used 2001 Ford Crown Victoria on the popular Internet auction site — the second car the department has sold online.

The department can make a signifcant amount of money selling it this way, Police Chief Colette Sutherland said.”We’ve only sold one car this way and it was a significantly higher” price than they got at the refurbishment company the department usually sells to, Sutherland said.

The refurbishment company had offered $1,500 for the vehicle. The police decided to see if they could get a better price. The car, another Ford Crown Victoria, sold for $3,000 on eBay.

One of the officers had an eBay account set up, so he sold the car through his account.
