Businesswoman Finds Her Niche In Pet Grooming
Like their owners, pets need grooming to stay clean, healthy, happy, and feeling comfortable. Whether it is a “185-pound Irish wolfhound, a 3-pound miniature yorkie, or a Himalayan cat, Andrea Knudsen, a 46-year-old pet groomer, is ready to help her canine and feline customers put their best paw forward.
Knudsen says, “Today groomers can get training and/or certifications online. In 1998 Andrea took an apprenticeship opportunity with a Lemoyne groomer. “I worked in her shop for free in exchange for my training working 40 hours a week for three months. The owner and I did four hours of practicum in the morning, and then the next four hours I would work on the same breed I learned about that morning. I acquired all my hours and passed my final which required me to accurately groom all breeds of dogs and cats. I was given a certificate by the owner to show that I was certified to work as a groomer.
Although the business is mostly for canines and some felines, there have been some interesting cameos, “We have groomed a lamb, some pigs, guinea pigs, and rabbits. She says her motto is, “I will try anything once. We even had a request to bathe a lizard.
