Gary Puleo, Special to The Mercury:

To paraphrase Ralph Waldo Emerson, build a better dog leash and the world will beat a path to your door.

Get that dog leash spotlighted on HGTV as a hot pet product and the world will not only beat a path but also clog your fax machine with orders for days.

That’s certainly been the case for Michael Young. When the Home and Garden TV network featured his invention, Wacky Walk’r — billed as the world’s first ergonomically correct pet-walking device — it had dog lovers all over the country howling with delight.

So what makes this walker so darn wacky?

“As the dog pulls, all that stress and energy is absorbed in the leash,” Young noted. “As he takes off, it’s not affecting your shoulders, arms or lower back, and the leash also corrects the dog back toward you as he pulls away.”
