Online Classifieds Are A Hot Category

In the last 12 months, eBay has increased auction-format listing fees, final value fees, launched eBay Express, significantly increased eBay Store fees, and made numerous other changes which have severely impacted many smaller sellers’ businesses.
Online classified sites have been around for a long time, and over the past few years, eBay has increased understanding and acceptance of buying online from an individual seller – something most people would not have considered before eBay emerged. Enter CraigsList, Backpage, LiveDeal, the Oodle classifieds site search tool, and other online classified sites.
Fifty-three percent of respondents to a recent AuctionBytes reader survey said they sell on classified sites. The big difference between eBay and online classified sites is the latter is completely free. No listing fees, no final value fees, no listing upgrade fees, free pictures, and no limited duration.
There is no problem selling large items, such as appliances or furniture, on these sites because most people pick up the items up from you. So, no shipping headaches either. And, if you have a PayPal account, the buyer can pay via credit card through PayPal even though it is not an eBay item.

The classifieds bug has also hit Indian shores. Recently while searching for an apartment I was delighted to see a site called khichdee.com which crawls the web to find classifieds from all categories of websites to provide them in a single, easy-to-search window. More importantly, khichdee also picks up ads from newspapers and magazines and presents them online!

Classified market is getting competitive in India as well due to the sheer size of target audience. It will be interesting to see the moves made by the players.

Online classified gives value for money to advertiser and readers get detailed information , considering lots of verticals launching shows that print media will be lossing biz in coming years to online verticals.

I agree with the article. When there is an easy way then everyone wants to try by it. So in my view the craigslist.com,oodle.com,hindlist.com are the best options other then ebay to advertise their products

Although it is not as popular as those top classifieds mentioned in your article, clearly we can feel the hottness of classifieds. Traditional newspapers are dying, but classifieds are taking a new form to grow.

Yes specially for Countries like India which has a huge population and High speed Internet is now a basic necessity in all house there Free Classified websites are very famous. If on Google India you just search for Free India classified Website you will come across hundreds of website out of which i personally like http://www.meramaal.com and have also got very good response from that website.
