Cellphone Site Hopes To Give eBay Some Competition
Buying a mobile phone at the pub or just passing on an old handset to a sibling could lose appeal with the launch on Monday of a phone-only auction Web site by the mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse Plc.
In a country with more handsets than people, Carphone hopes the site, www.mymobileauction.com, will rival online auction giant eBay as Britons look to recoup a bit of cash from their old phones after upgrading to newer, swankier models.
Carphone hopes the move could also boost its main business by giving fashion-conscious consumers who feel the need to have the latest model another excuse to upgrade their phone.
