Niche Biz: Fixing iPods
Identify a niche market and sell to that market only via the Internet. It’s an efficient business model.
Recent Cal Poly graduates Kyle Wiens and Luke Soules have successfully employed the strategy with the company they started in 2003. iFixit sells Macintosh and iPod parts and upgrades via the Internet.
“We are an e-commerce company, and our mission is to enable people to keep their existing technology working better, longer. I intensely dislike throwing away perfectly good technology. Our goal from day one has been to help people, like us, fix their machines,” Wiens said.
IFixit has already developed a largely national and international market.

Great article! I’ve noticed in many instances, the problem actually derives from a faulty HDD cable. People wrongfully suspect that it’s a bad hard drive and this simply isn’t always the case. Thanks for posting this.
