Daily Press & Argus:

Carol Surago considers herself a “granny,” but anyone would be hard-pressed to find her knitting or loafing her days away at home.

Surago, who turns 60 next March, recently started her own business, Granny on the Go, a service aimed at helping senior citizens and others in Livingston County get through their daily lives.

While Surago is clearly excited about her new business, she didn’t come to it out of choice.

Surago lost her job in May as a logistics manager with The Nailco Group in Lyon Township after working there only seven months.

She started brainstorming on how to start a business that would help others and keep her financially above water. With children of her own, Surago saw firsthand the challenge parents face nowadays between work and raising a family.

“There’s just no time to go shopping or pick up laundry from the cleaners, or plan a party,” she said.

Aside from busy parents, Surago already knew senior citizens often need help getting to medical and other appointments. She got her first clients through a church bulletin, rather not advertising.
