The IRS audited 17,867 of about 5.7 million small businesses last year, up from 7,294 the year before, BusinessWeek says in a new story.What about big companies? “Audits of corporations with assets over $10 million also increased in 2005, but by a much smaller percentage: up 14% from the previous year, to 10,878,” the story says.
