A Naperville entrepreneur has found a way to put a stop to wind-blown recyclables with the development of a product called the Bin Keeper. The brainchild of Brian Horwath, the easy-to-use device may soon be test-marketed by Menards stores in Naperville and Plainfield and may one day even carry a patent.
“I basically took the cargo net from the back of my car and used it one day to keep the trash from flying out, and it sort of gave me the idea,” Horwath said.
The Bin Keeper is made from polyester mesh, similar in design to the porous mesh of a football jersey, to allow for ease of use as well safety, so that possible suffocation hazards are eliminated.
The product first received high marks from a Naperville city department official, and now local stores like Buikema’s or Menards may determine a more national exposure.
“Getting a single product into a retail establishment is probably the most difficult challenge we have faced,” Horwath said.
