Think you have an ugly e-commerce site? Do something about it!
Idea Catchers Group is sponsoring the “Ugly E-commerce Contest” for a chance to win a custom e-commerce site — valued up to $25,000 — plus 90 days of online marketing support.
Any independent retailer, online store, catalog or mail-order company with an existing e-commerce Web site is eligible. You must currently accept online payments to qualify — an Internet merchant account, PayPal®, Google Checkout™ or any other means of online payment processing is fine.
“We’re looking for the ugliest of the ugly and the worst of the worst,” said Larissa Church, president and co-founder of Idea Catchers Group. “That includes sites with not just an ugly design - but also clunky order forms, confusing navigation, poor conversion rates, and any other issue that’s hampering Web sales and performance. When we find that seriously shameful site, we’ll give it the primping and prodding it needs to become a stunning sales tool.”
All entries will receive a complimentary, personalized site review — with practical recommendations on how to handle e-commerce security, attract more Web site visitors, increase online sales, and improve customer service.
Entry deadline: December 31, 2006. Winner will be announced February 1, 2007. Enter here.

A $25,000 ecommerce site? Is it going to be in golden letters or something? I can’t imagine a redesign costing that much, and I’m a web developer myself.

I just checked out Idea Catcher’s portfolio and I’m amazed at how horrible the designs look. If anything, it is those sites that need a re-re-design.

Hi Dane, thanks so much for helping to get the word out to business owners about this contest. We’ve already had a lot of great entries and are looking forward to more. (Competition is fierce amongst the ugly Web sites!) I’ll let you know when the winner is announced in February. Thanks!
