Selling socks for diabetics and gifts for animal lovers might not seem a hip online business for two recent college graduates. But the Charlotte entrepreneurs hope brisk sales on what has become known as Cyber Monday are a good omen for their online future.
Jon West, co-founder and president of operations for Charlotte-based 3tailer, said Monday he saw an uptick in sales for the sock and gift business — one of a growing breed of online niche retailers without storefronts or warehouses hoping to cash in this holiday season.
October was the busiest month ever for the company, which sells the products through two e-commerce sites: Socks4life.com and Gift-lover.com. And November could set a new record, he said.
The pair have three other e-commerce sites that handle specialized products almost ready to launch, West said. “It’s a niche strategy,” he said.
