Magician Brian McDermott grew bored of his usual tricks and was in search of new ideas. His quest led him down a path of familiar tricks he had already used. He began pondering the idea of his own invention.

Through a long trial and error process of sketching shapes and patterns, he formed a cube with a sphere trapped inside, illustrating a ball in a cage. And then it was born, “Alcatraz the Puzzle.” A simple idea turned into a theme that only the most intelligent minds would be able to solve, he said.

The puzzle is assembled with a steel ball that is enclosed behind two solid brass bars. This unique brain teaser was recently granted a U.S. patent and is making its way to different parts of the world.
