Ottawa Sun:

Like many a good idea, simplicity is the chief component of the no-knot scarf which snaps free for enhanced safety.

That’s why, just in time for Christmas and motivated by hearing about a child’s death caused by a traditional winter scarf, Diane Lefebvre concocted the colourful kid-protecting no-knot.

Thanks to one-inch Velcro snaps, the fleece neck wraps Lefebvre is designing and selling are quick-release, preventing mishaps which could lead to strangulation.

The garment has definitely got that “Why haven’t they come up with this before?” factor. But after a patent search, Lefebvre says nobody else has used her design.

She points out that Health Canada doesn’t recommend the use of traditional scarves for certain children’s winter activities. And the Upper Canada District School Board cautions its schools that traditional scarves, as well as toggles and drawstrings, aren’t advisable for children using play structures.

No-knot scarves are sold through her company, Seraphim Roth.
