Steve Beckman might be a 41-year-old salesman, but to his kids and, hopefully, customers worldwide, he’s Story Bookman –superhero and “inventurer” of toys and games for educational purposes.
Beckman uses his Story Bookman persona to pitch his creation called “Cardtivity.”
It’s a system of cards that work like building blocks. The cards are simple 3 1/2 - by 3 1/2-inch plastic squares, and each one has two tabs and two folds. Six cards make one cube. They connect and disconnect with ease, stay connected and don’t topple.
Beckman began selling “Cardtivity” sets in November by visiting every mom-and-pop toy shop he could find in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. He has four kits of various sizes. One comes with enough pieces to build a pirate ship, another comes with cards to construct a dinosaur, while another can create a motorcycle.
“Construction toys are a staple in the toy industry,” he said.
