Doors Almost Busted Down

The Border Mail:

harvey_norman.jpgPeople were queuing outside Harvey Norman to be the first to buy something at the opening of the store’s bulky goods centre in Borella Road, Albury.

There was a stampede when the doors opened at 8am as customers raced to be one of 10 people to buy a DVD player for $1.

Electrical department franchisee Simon Moir said the $1 DVD sale was just one of the sale promotions the store had as part of its opening.

‘We were almost flattened by the people coming through to be the first to get into the great deals and the cheap DVD players,’ he said. Mr Moir said he expected the weekend would be just as big. ‘We will have lots of demonstrations happening in store, including cooking demonstrations in our fully equipped kitchen display area,’ he said.

The $25 million shopping centre features the large Harvey Norman with electrical, furniture and computer departments. The floor covering department, which was too big to fit into the store, is next door. The 4 departments are locally owned franchises which trade under the Harvey Norman banner.

Computer and camera franchisee Matthew Carr said a few camera professionals had already been in to check out the store’s impressive digital SLR department.

‘They couldn’t believe our extensive range of Nikon, Canon, Sony and Olympus cameras,’ he said.
