eBay Executives Get Aggressive with Phishing

eBay CEO Meg Whitman has outlined an aggressive plan the online auction giant plans to follow to combat online fraud known as “phishingâ€? scams, but so far analysts aren’t biting.

They say the plan doesn’t go far enough to protect eBay’s community of users. “There’s simply no way to shut down all fraud completely,â€? said Matt Sergeant, senior anti-spam technologist at MessageLabs, which focuses on email security.

Ms. Whitman presented her plan Thursday at the VISA Security Summit in Washington, D.C. She highlighted three methods for stumping perpetrators of “phishingâ€? email scams that attempt to dupe people into giving up personal information.
