Mompreneur Moxie

Many mothers have the same “mompreneur” fantasy. It usually hits them after countless days spent changing diapers and nursing hungry babies.
It’s rarely that easy, but the dream is compelling enough that it often makes ambitious mothers want to jump on the mompreneur bandwagon. After all, how hard can it be?
The answer is really hard, even for businesses like Baby Gourmet that have achieved quick success. Co-owners and sisters Jennifer Broe, 31, and Jill Vos, 38, are stunned at how well their homemade baby food business is doing. These Calgary mompreneurs have five children between them but no debt; they’ve tripled their profit projections and are already making plans to franchise the business after only one year.
“My five-year business plan — we outgrew it in eight months,” says Broe. “I didn’t know what to expect when we started, but I didn’t think it would happen this quick.”
