Author Makes Super Heroes Out Of Moms
Once Melanie Hauserâs two sons reached school age, the stay-at-home mother found herself with extra time.
The Ben Davis High School graduate and Indianapolis native didnât have any specific career she wanted to go back to. So she seized the opportunity to write books, something sheâs always loved.
Fast forward several years, and Hauser is now the author of two successful books, Confessions of Super Mom and the recently-published Super Mom Saves the World.
Hauserâs journey from homemaker to author wasnât exactly easy. She wrote three novels before âSuper Momâ? that werenât published. The first one, she said, was truly bad. The next two were good enough to attract literary representation. Both were submitted to major publishers but never quite sealed a deal.
âItâs just not easy to get a book sold these days,â? Hauser said during a recent phone interview. âItâs not just an editor who has to sign off on it â itâs a whole marketing committee. Itâs really the accountants (who) have taken over. Itâs a risk, and they have to decide that theyâre either going to make a lot of money on this or they wonât. If they donât think they will, they wonât publish it.â?
